The real life NZ team are an embarrassment at present. Where is that renowned Kiwi fighting spirit?

            • ENGLAND v NZ (1st ODI 2013)

We made a great start to the One Day series, restricting England to 191/7 and then chasing it down with ease.

Only Cook and Bopara caused us any bother with the bat. Collin (10-4-23-0) and Nathan MacCullum (10-1-29-0) tied the batsmen down with superb spells of bowling, allowing the other bowlers to reap the wicket-taking rewards.

Then Sinclair and Taylor guided us to the win with some scintillating batting.

              • ENGLAND v NZ (2nd ODI 2013)

The English hit back with an equally crushing victory in the second ODI.

We could only manage a pitiful 195 all out, several batsmen getting starts, but failing to go on.

Cook and Bopara again stood out for the home team as they cruised to victory.

The series now level at 1-1 with one to play,

                • ENGLAND v NZ (3rd ODI 2013)

The English bowlers bowled superbly in the deciding ODI, to restrict us to 181 all out.
Guptill (32) and Hunt (40) were the best of our batsmen in a disappointing performance.
Harris (4/31), Anderson (2/30) and Swann (2/36) were those to finish with the best bowling figures.

Led by an undefeated 80no from opener Ian Bell, the home side cruised to an easy victory to take out the ODI series by 2-1.

                  • ENGLAND v NZ (T20 International 2013)

Just the one T20 International on this tour and the home side took the honours here too.

Ian Bell continued the tremendous form he'd shown in the 3rd ODI, with a swashbuckling innings of 73, as England put together 150/8.
Franklin (4/30) and Collin (2/28) were the best of our bowlers.

Guptill (42) was our only batsman to threaten, as we were bundled out for 114, with three overs spare.
Harris (4/19) and Swann (2/9 off three overs) again did the damage.

                    • NZ tour to BANGLADESH 2013

Next up was a tour to Bangladesh. We hoped to have more success here, but were wary of the threat that their spinners would pose on their own tracks.

We're currently spoilt for choice for well-performed batsmen, so when the side was announced for the first Test. the first piece of big news was the omission of Ross Taylor. Dean Brownlie would again take over the captaincy in his absence.
Vettori was unavailable for this tour through injury, so a lot of thought was given to which spinners might serve us best on the sub-continent.
We went for Luke Woodcock and Tarun Nethula.
The balance of a good batting line up and an effective bowling attack saw us give a chance to young all-rounder Harry Boam. He should provide effective back up to Henry and Franklin in the pace department.

Should be interesting to see how the new look side fares!

NZ side for the 1st Test

                      S.Murdoch
                      B.Watling
                      D.Hunt
                      D.Brownlie (captain)
                      K.Williamson
                      D.de Boorder (wk)
                      J.Franklin
                      H.Boam
                      L.Woodcock
                      M.Henry
                      T.Nethula

                      • BANGLADESH v NZ (1st Test 2013)

We won the toss and took first use of the good batting conditions.

After Watling was cleaned out by a Mahmud yorker for a duck at 1/1, Murdoch (59) and Hunt (118) combined for a second wicket stand of 150, before Murdoch was sent on his way at 151/2.
Hunt and Brownlie (44) then took us through to 223/3.
However, after that, there was little else apart from Boam (31) and Woodcock (21no) as we were dismissed for 318 all out.
As expected, it was the Bangladeshi spinners who benefitted most, with Sunny (6/90) starring and Al Hasan (3/93) playing a supporting role.

In contrast, it was Franklin who did the damage with the ball for us, as he bowled with great ferocity and accuracy to take 6/47!
Bangladesh were going along comfortably at 148/2, when Franklin dashed their hopes.
They were skittled for just 233, with Iqbal (91) and Al Hasan (37) the best of their batsmen.
Nethula picked up 3/63 and looked good, but Woodcock remained wicketless.

Watling made amends for his first innings failure with a tremendous 128 in our second turn at bat.
With useful contributions from Murdoch (48) and de Boorder (44no), we were able to declare at 292/7, leaving our opponents a victory target of 373, but also allowing ourselves time to bowl them out.
Sunny (3/62) was again the most dangerous of the Bangladeshi bowlers.

In front of their vocal and excited home fans, Iqbal (70) and Nafees (66) got the Bangladeshis off to a wonderful start, scoring 132 for the first wicket.
However, despite the best efforts of Al Hasan (52), Nethula and Woodcock put us back on top as they reduced the home side to 192/5.
But the advantage swung back heavily towards Bangladesh as Ghosh (52) and Hossain (58no) took their side to the cusp of a fantastic come from behind win at 330/7.
Fortunately, the second new ball did the trick for us, as Franklin and Boam cleaned up the tail to spare our blushes.
Nethula (5/104) and Boam (2/41) finished with the best figures.

                        • Neither side made any changes to their playing elevens when the sides were named for the second and final test.
Could the Bangladeshis pull off a win and square the series? The second test coming up soon!

We won on the 5th day.

I don't like "spin specialist" batsmen and try to technique train them so that they have a slight spin preference.
