SECOND ODI REVIEW + THIRD ODI NEWS

A better match all around from an Australian perspective. I decided to bite the bullet and hand James Muirhead his ODI cap. He becomes the 208th player to represent Australia in the format. Shaun Marsh actually made it past 50, much to my surprise. It was nice to see him stay in the runs with a vital 73. His younger brother Mitchell Marsh also contributed well with 61. A few other scores here and there but again, lots of starts with very few kicking on. To keep a side to sub-200 you've obviously bowled well, and I think we did. Nathan Coulter-Nile removed both openers and from there we chipped away pretty regularly. A good win.

With the series wrapped up at 2-0 will we look for the kill or maybe look to experiment with the side?

ODI SERIES REVIEW

A 3-0 win in the end, can't have too many complaints really. There's steady improvement in the side, but I'm still finding out what the best xi is. We plugged James Muirhead in game two and he was better than I was expecting to be honest. We have such an array of pace bowlers I'm spoilt for choice, Josh Hazlewood was arguably the pick of the bowlers in the ODI's against England, and he wasn't even selected for this one. Mitchell Johnson slid back in for game three and took a game high 4-47. He should've had better figures to be honest. Had 2 catches dropped off his bowling and had another caught off a no ball. Just touching on that quickly, 7 no balls is wayyyyyy too many for my liking. Aaron Finch has had a really poor series, but captain Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell saved our skin today. Tim Paine was steady with a 26* towards the back end, still not sure what I'm going to do with the shorter formats wicket keeper.

T20 MATCHES REVIEWED + FIRST HOME SERIES

Both really weird games. Looked to be decent games for batting, and for us it started that way too. Going at 10+ rpo for the first three overs before collapsing before ending up with around 120 on the board. The captain, Aaron Finch was immense and needed to be after a terrible showing in the ODI's. Glenn Maxwell took a few wickets in both of the matches and Pat Cummins was great as well. All in all, not that fussed about walking away with the series drawn. In a way we were lucky to really, Bangladesh needed three runs to win off that final Nathan Coulter-Nile. He took a wicket and conceded just the one run.

Next we finally head home, and to kick things off there we have three Test matches against a tough New Zealand side. Can't wait!

FIRST TEST REVIEW + SECOND TEST NEWS

Right, well that was a kick in the teeth. Just jumping to day five for a quick second. We started it off pretty well, batsman were making quick runs and a huge target of around 430-odd was actually possible. Then we lost some wickets and I thought "okay, we'll get to draw no problems". Then with five overs to go New Zealand managed to snare Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood just couldn't get through, sadly.

I didn't think we bowled great, but didn't think we bowled poor enough to concede 440 first up either. Josh Hazlewood started really well, and Nathan Lyon got it going towards the end with 6-142. I guess you could make a case for the tail making runs but the pitch was quite nice to bat on, once you get through the new ball. Quite clearly we couldn't do that ourselves. Both openers fell really cheaply and put a great deal of pressure on what history would say, is a weak middle order. Peter Nevill made a career saving 50, while Michael Clarke and Shaun Marsh contributed as well.

A much better bowling performance here, but just couldn't hold them under 200 in the end. Josh Hazlewood again bowled well taking 3-47 and Mitchell Starc actually got a wicket too, so that helped. In the end, the damage was done in the first innings, but a better bowling performance here would have made it interesting. Things were going at a hectic pace early, and we were an outside chance going into day five two down with over 100 runs wiped off. Just couldn't keep that momentum going unfortunately, and we fell just balls before the end of play.

Onto Adelaide we go, which is now absolutely vital for us. Going to need to win on the road of all roads to win the series. I can't foresee any changes to the eleven, they weren't too bad overall, consistency seems to be the problem. As well as both left armers offering next to nothing.

SECOND TEST REVIEW + THIRD TEST NEWS

Very much needed, that win. Really thought we'd struggle to be honest, coming off the devastating Brisbane result and the fact the Adelaide pitch is always heavily favoured towards runs. Adding to the hurt we lost the toss and were sent out into the field. Basically from that point we seized control and didn't let go. Mitchell Starc found some rhythm and took 3-45 in tough conditions for the fast man. Corey Anderson went absolutely bananas at Nathan Lyon for several overs and it paid off under a break saw him lose his concentration. We were largely frustrating with the bat. Joe Burns finally got going and chimed in with a well made 60. Mitchell Marsh blew a golden chance at a second Test hundred, falling for 81 on the final ball of the session. Typically, his brother Shaun Marsh fell two balls after the break for 49. Our saviour was without a doubt Mitchell Johnson. What an innings it was. 136 runs when the team really needed them, it was just a genuine match winning innings really, not much else you can say.

So we start the second innings, roughly 150 runs in front. New Zealand cruise to the lead losing just two wickets along the way, and I'm starting to think all might be lost here. Runs were flowing, the pitch was still a paradise for batsman and Kane Williamson along with Ross Taylor were looking in control. Up steps Mitchell Johnson, again. The great man breaks the partnership and takes 4-55 along the way, taking him to six wickets for the match along with the brilliant hundred. New Zealand set us 153 to chase, and the pitch was still decent enough to bat on, with the best part of two sessions left, 153 was a breeze. Trent Boult was the lone star at the end for the Kiwis but ultimately, 153 just wasn't enough.

Off to Perth we go, and with things likely to offer some great pace and superior bounce, we may actually look to play four quicks. Nothing set in stone yet, we'll have to wait and see there. Natives Jason Behrendorff and Nathan Coulter-Nile are the likely quicks in contention.
