  • Does making a player captain *REALLY* make a difference?

In Cricket Captain - Does making a player captain actually have any influence on their (or their team's) performance?

Maybe the devs can weigh in here, on whether giving a player the captain's duties in the game would affect player/team performance at all?

Can I expect to see any real effect (good or bad) on the performance of the players I select as captain?

There are some players who lifted when made Captain Graham Smith (South Africa) some who crashed Ian Botham (England) some who tried doing everthing Garry Sobers (West Indies) and Ben Stokes (England) some who cruised on with no effect Steve Waugh (Australia) and Virat Koli (India).
There are interesting stats in some books about Australian and English Captains but overall the effect is to diverse.

100%. Some guys took the captaincy role in their stride, while others wilted when given the extra responsibility. Such is the nature of our great game

A quick bump to this thread - Can anyone say whether giving a specific player captain's duties in the game, actually make any difference to their performances (good or bad)?

Or is the captaincy tag in-game just cosmetic?

Think its just cosmetic because can you even see who is the opposition captain?

Yes, it does. I have been playing this game since ICC 2002 and always noticed when I made someone captain, he performed kind of responsibly and well and stood out - not everyone but most of them.

I would definitely like to hear from Chris about this. As some game features were little known to even veterans of the series until the developers chimed in.

E.g. I did not know until recently that using technique training on players 35+ helped with slowing down the rate of talent decline and thus allows to extend the careers of good players.
