Query: What is the best aggression to start off a T20 when batting first ?

Players: T20 Specialists like Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Lasith Malinga, Brendon McCullum rarely put their hand up when needed. They are a bit underrated. Harbhajan Singh is underrated in IPL.

Scores: In the IPL, if I go at one bar less than full or at full while chasing 170+ score, I frequently get out for 100. I sometimes see scores of <50. In reality 150-160 is a competitive score. 180 is challenging but it is possible to chase. So, I would appreciate if there are more 'realistic' scores in IPL matches. International T20 games have been perfectly fine.

I usually start at 4-5 bars of aggression, but ramp it up after a few balls.

I agree the T20s can be a bit touchy. Often very low scores even around 120 can be competitive. I wonder if weather/ pitch condition are the real factor - presumably most T20s are played on pretty good pitches that dont have time to deteriorate, and I tend to see the bigger scores on 'good' pitches in game.

Dew factor is also important in D/N matches especially in IPL. IPL teams are oriented for only T20s. So, 120 is a poor score even on Eden Gardens (spin-friendly) where you at least need 140 to defend. Another point that computer will never open with a spinner. I frequently see this strategic move in IPL and even in the Big Bash. Spin friendly tracks in India can help spinners when they open the bowling even in longer formats.

Now I am getting some grip on T20s.
The strategy is to attack weaker bowlers.

Be defensive. Try to keep a slip at the start of the innings.

I generally do not change those factors.

The best advice that I received was to pay close attention to your fielding settings - they can make a big difference in the shorter formats.

I bat with 6 with one batsman at beginning to try and hold someone who is played in for later.
