  • Mission Impossible: A Gloucestershire Story

With no money to bring in new recruits, even though over seven players in the squad are still waiting for their maiden County Championship appearance, Gloucestershire look like a side in crisis- which in fact, they might just be.

We have some positives, of course; Jon Lewis, a one-cap 'wonder', but who will add a lot in regards to our One Day regime; Hamish Marshall, ex- New Zealand star; several young players who actually do look promising, like the wicketkeeper Chris Dent, all-rounder Ed Young, and Ian Cockbain, the Liverpool-born opener.

However, in terms of strength in depth, we have possibly the weakest side out of the 18 Counties. Our overseas player, Kane Williamson, is 20 years of age. In the T20 games, we can call upon Muttiah Muralitharan, but whether he is past it- or not- is still open to the jury, and we should soon enough find out.

    Season 1 Objectives
To finish higher than last place.
To get past the group stages of the T20 k/o.
The get past the group stages of the Pro40 k/o.

Yes, this seems like a lowly target to set, but let's start slow, and see how it all pans out...

Good luck, Gloucestershire are definitely "this year's Worcestershire" challenge wise.
