The chase was quite a good one considering their early setbacks. They were always behind the asking rate after that and I guess that bowlers do have exceptional final overs now and then.

    • NZ side announced for 1st Test against visiting Indians

We've won the toss and will get first use of what should be a good batting track.

No MS Dhoni in Indian side?
It looks like ICC 2010 and 2011 hate to include him in squad

        • 1st Test - NZ v India 2013

We got off to shocking start, crumbling to 29/4 before Williamson and Ryder put on 200 for the fifth wicket. Williamson took the attack to the Indian bowlers and his century was a superb spectacle.
As often happens after a big partnership, both fell in short succession. However, another big partnership of 159 between Taylor and Wagner for the seventh wicket saw us post a very good total.
Pathan was the most dangerous of the bowlers, taking 5/115.

The visitors also made a poor start and were in huge trouble at 75/5 before the middle and lower order stopped the rot. However, at 183/7 and facing the possibility of having to follow on, all-rounder Pathan and fellow paceman Kumar constructed what was probably a match saving stand of 142 for the eighth wicket as the tourists managed to reach 350. For Pathan, his century was his first in test cricket.
Vic Skinner and Sam Wells were the best of our bowlers.

We again made a poor start and at 66/4 were in danger of embarrassment. Fortunately, Stephen Murdoch steadfastly held things together, finding a useful ally in Ryder. Once they'd departed, Van Wyk and Wagner put together an unbeaten stand of 46 for the eighth wicket, enabling us to declare in a position of safety.
Pathan put in another superb performance, grabbing 3/47 to cement man of the match honours.

India didn't take the bait and have a go at the target of 334 that we'd set them, preferring to get in some batting practice ahead of the final test.

He has a pretty poor FC and test record to be honest.

            • We've retained the same side for the second test, resisting the temptation to bring in a spinner. The pitch could well favour spin later on, but with cloudy/very cloudy conditions expected for much of the first three days, it was felt that our seamers would be pretty potent.
In stark contrast, the Indians have dropped P.Kumar and Z.Khan to bring in the spin duo of P.Chawla and B.Bhatt. Perhaps they know somethng we don't?
We've lost the toss and been put into bat, a decision that we're not too unhappy about.

              • 2nd Test - NZ v India 2013

After Brownlie and Williamson combined to take us through to 159/2, the wheels started to fall off somewhat and at 218/6 our innings was in the balance. Fortunately, Ryder and Van Wyk came to the rescue with a superb double century stand which took us through to 422/6 before the former was dismissed. The tail failed to support Van Wyk though and he was the last to fall, his innings of 123 being his maiden test century.
Chawla was the best of the Indian bowlers, taking 6/145.

In reply, the visitors got off to a great start, with Gambhir and Sehwag putting on 171 for the first wicket. Vic Skinner and part time spinner Williamson then put us back on top as they reduced India to 282/6. Rahane and Parthan steadied the ship with a stand of 100 before the innings fell away just short of our total.
Kane Williamson took advantage of turning conditions to pick up 5/91!

Chawla caused all sorts of anxiety in the NZ dressing room and amongst NZ fans though as he weaved his magic over our batsmen on the dicey wicket. However, held together mainly through a gritty Williamson half century, we limped through to 147 all out, but more crucially only leaving the Indians one session of batting which was not enough time to chase down a come from behind victory.
Chawla finished with 7/52, making his haul for the match an impressive one.

Neil Wagner ripped out both Sehwag and Sharma with consecutive deliveries, but the match was always destined for a draw.

I'm happy with a drawn series against third ranked India.

Perhaps because Williamson scored 71 and a match saving innings of 59 to go with his 5/91?

                    • NZ ODI Squad for the ODI series v India 2013

Colin de Grandhomme was the unlucky player to miss out, but it was felt that it would be more beneficial to include Trent Boult and give him further technique training.

                      • 1st ODI - NZ v India 2013

We took two spinners into the match, with Williamson expected to bowl a full ten overs.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, we racked up an imposing 297/9 with young Williamson again leading the way. All the training time being invested in him is certainly starting to bear fruit.
Our batsmen were particularly brutal on the Indian spinners, not allowing them to dominate by settling into a rhythm.

The visitors were never really in the hunt and succumbed meekly, all out in just the 35th over.
U.Kaul was the only batsman to show any fight as all of our bowlers impressed in one way or another. Southee went for plenty, but exacted his revenge with three wickets, while Bruce Martin bowled a full spell to take 2/43. Tuffey took 2/26 from his seven overs and Sam Wells took 1/21 from his opening spell of six overs.

                        • Nice job beating India so comprehensibly and drawing with them in the Tests, that's an impressive performance.

One question. Where's Ryder got to?

Ryder is in the test side, but has trouble making it into the one dayers. He's on the fringes though.

                            • 2nd ODI - NZ v India 2012

The Indians dropped Laxman and Bhatt, bringing in young star batsman Pandey plus medium pacer Yadav.
We retained the same playing eleven.

We lost the toss and were put in to bat. The Indian bowlers put in a much tighter performance this time and restricted us to 249/7. Kane Williamson again starred with the bat, ably assisted by Taylor in particular. Pathan was the pick of the bowlers with 2/40.

After Sehwag went early, Gambhir and Sharma took their side through to 87/1 before Brook Hatwell struck with two wickets in an over. However, the Indian middle order carried the day with both keeper Kaul and pace bowler Pathan scoring half centuries.

The five match series now tied at 1-1.

                              • 3rd ODI - NZ v India 2013

We kept the same side for the third consecutive ODI. The Indians left oot Yadav and brought Bhatt back in.

Our turn to win the toss and we chose to bat first.
With the exception of Hatwell and Van Wyk, all of our batsmen made useful contributions on our way to topping 300. Dean Brownlie led the way this time with a fine century, while Williamson and Taylor both notched up half centuries.
S.Kumar was the only bowler spared severe punishment as he finished with the fine figures of 2/38.

Wells and Southee knocked the top of the Indian innings to have them reeling at 32/4 and it was all downhill from there. Kaul and Chawla were the best two contributors in what was another appalling effort.
Southee finished with 4/32 and Williamson picked up 3/37 as the visitors collapsed to 117 all out in the 26th over!

                                A huge win to NZ.

                                NZ take a 2-1 lead.
