You must learn to lose before you learn to win, my sons. It will take you many years to gain success. During this process you will suffer many hardships. You will seek to learn from others but discover that their wisdom makes little difference for you must ultimately find your own way. You will think that you are gaining control only to discover that you have none, for the game is designed to thwart your ambitions. You will seek to learn the mysteries of the pitch and the weather only to discover that the AI batsmen laugh at clouds, relish uneven bounce and thrive on sharply turning balls bowled by international spinners. You will develop young players, nurturing them with a view to future success only to discover that they are too good for you (or anyone else) to afford their services. Many times will you work hard to establish winning situations only to discover that the AI tail-enders may have career averages in single figures but have been waiting for your team to come along to play the innings of their lives. After many, many years (and no skipping!), you may have a team worthy of you. Then, my sons, you may go online and learn to be thrashed again (and possibly insulted) by an edited team created by someone who wasn't prepared to walk the true and stony path.
Then you will be faced once again with that recurring question, the greatest mystery of all - why, oh why, do we keep playing this beguiling strumpet of a game?
I guess it must be because we just love cricket!

, although it doesn't seem too funny when you're actually playing the game
