  • Surrey Cricket Club- A Story

This is my first attempt at a story so it'll probably be pretty bad. I will play a Full Game and on Normal Difficulty with the County of Surrey. Updates will be posted later tonight.
BTW this will be a text based story, no pics.

It is a real flat track and it is very poor for both Fast and Spin Bowlers. We win the toss and bat...

        Day One

We elected to bat first (No-Brainer) but were soon in trouble when our opposition got their early wicket. 19-1. It got worse and we were down to 29-2 in no time. Thankfully Michael Brown (111*) and Affzall (139*) batted through two and a half sessions to remain unbeaten at the end of the day leaving us on 277-2 at the end of the day

        Surrey 2-0 Gloucestshire

        Day Two

We came out at the start of Day Two looking to be ruthless and end any hope of loss. That we did well batting to 522 all out. Sadly we only got 3 Batting Points because of our slowness but they only got 1 bowling point. Affzaal got out on his overnight score but Brown got to 239*, a great achievement. We then got well and truly on top reducing them to 26-2 and one retired hurt leaving them at effectively 26-3.

        Surrey 4-1 Gloucestshire

        Day Three

Fantastic start to the day. Tudor and Ormond did the early damage and now it was time for the 3 spinners to destroy their innings. 171 ALL OUT! We had 4 1/2 sessions to bowl them out and to win. In their second innings we applied the squeeze and had 'em at 154-5 at the close needing just 4 wickets for victory. Marvelous performance!

        Surrey 6-1 Gloucestshire

        Day Four

We wrapped it up just after lunch by an innings and 102 runs despite a battling century by Snell. We got 20 points whereas they got ONE.

          A Tudor

          Derbyshire Team

          D Birch
          P Borrington
          S Law
          J Clare
          G Park
          J Sadler

          J Pipe
          G Wagg
          J Needham
          T Lungley

We make no changes to our side since our last game but this pitch is very helpful for spinners. After losing the toss Derbyshire put themselves into bat..

            Nice start
Surrey are a good side from my experience so far of the game for D2, so you should do OK.

              Day One

It all started swimmingly for us, Tudor got a wicket in the very first over of the game to put them at 4-1. But then Stuart Law came in and bashed our bowling to all ends of the park but was eventually out for 182. Sadler backed him up well with 78. They managed to hit 371 off the first day but we kept chipping away with wickets at regular intervals to leave them 9 down at the close, mostly thanks to Hussain taking 4 wickets.

              Derbyshire 4-3 Surrey

              Day Two

We managed to take the final wicket and bowled them out for 381. Hussain finished with 4, King with 3, Tudor with 2 and Ormond with one. Some great batting took us through to tea at 179-2 with Afzall hitting a half century. After tea Afzall was run out on 84 and then a calamity as Batty and Butcher fell quickly. Fortuantely Ramprakash was still there and he got to 86* leaving us 286-5 at the close.

              Derbyshire 5-5 Surrey

              Day Three

We got to lunch at 392-5 with Ramps getting to century and Hussain to half-century. We needed 8 off the next over to secure max batting points. In the 120th over we got the required 8 runs to get max bonus points!!! We then had a collapse and were bowled out for 430 a lead of 49 with Ramprakash making 163. Derbyshire tried ending our hopes of victory by hitting their way out of trouble and this worked to an extent but at the close they were 183-5 a lead of 133, can we win...

              Derbyshire 6-8 Surrey

              Day Four

Derbyshire put up a fight but were bowled out for 265 giving us 217 to win in two sessions and 20 minutes to win. King took 4 Wickets and Ormond took 5. WHAT BATTING! We whacked 188 off that session and a bit plus we only lost 3 wickets and we just needed 23 to win off the last session. We duly won by 7 wickets with 1 Hour and an 'alf left in the final session. It was Affzaal who set us on the way with 86*.

              Derbyshire 6-22 Surrey
MOTM: Stuart Law for his 182

Another fantastic win for us in the County Championship putting us top by one point. However next game is an OD and I am terrible at those...

Isn't it 130 overs to get batting points?

It was 130 overs for the 2008 season, 120 for 2009 season and 110 for this season.

I guess as an incentive for teams to bat more aggressively then.

We lose the toss and have to bowl first. But seeming though I was going to bowl first anyway it is no great loss and everyone is happy

                        Gloucestshire Innings

We looked to get early wickets and they were looking for quick runs but we struck early! 23-1 off 7 overs. Sadly we couldn't capitilize on that excellent start. They were going along slowly but had plenty of wickets in hand. At the halfway stage they were 120-2. Then some great bowling from Collins and Hussain put the pressure on. Suddenly the wickets were falling and we got them from 120-2 to 155-9 off 45. The Number 10 and 11 decided to make the trget more dfficult nd that they did propelling them to 199.

                        Surrey Innings

We tried to get to the target quickly and put the game out of reach. Sadly Gloucestshire's bowling was on the mark. 60-3 off 20 overs. Increasing our pace frantically we managed to hit 100 runs in the next 22 overs. But we were 8 down. Collins and Tudor got enough singles and edged fours to see us home with 5 balls left. VICTORY!

                        Surrey 2-0 Glocuestshire

We are unchanged for this game in the Challenge Trophy. We lose the toss (again!) and are put into Bat.

                          Surrey Innings

We were looking to get round 220 which we thought would be a good total. The first 10 overs however though, we were bogged down at 38 for 2. This Durham team were good, really good. 20 overs later we were 108 for 6. Down in the dumps. Schofield made a battling 43 and the tail wagged and we made a really good 186 which was very defendable.

                          Durham Innings

We were looking to take regular wickets and keep the scoring down. The opening 15 overs will be crucial. Ouch! Our bowling took a bit of pasting. 96 for 2 off 15. Our bowling has to bounce back. And fast! There's the comeback, 153-6 off 30. They need 30 to win with 4 wickets in hand. Bring it on!

But we failed. Durham win by 4 Wickets! That is the first defeat of my tenure and it had to come sometime. Next up Yorkshire in the Challenge Trophy!

One change as Elliot comes in for King. We win the toss and stick Yorkshire in on an extremely cloudy Morning.

                            Yorkshire Innings

BANG! BANG! 29 off the first over, ouch! Off 20 Overs, Yorkshire were 126-1 and in complete control. Excellent recovery set up by Hussain who returned with figures of 10-0-29-4. We bowled them out for 233 which was excellent seeming though a score of 350 was looming until Hussain came on.

                            Surrey Innings

The squeeze was applied by Yorkshire as we only managed to hit 28-0 off the first ten. At the halfway stage we were 88-2 both openers having fallen to catches. And sadly that's the way our innings went all the way through. Batsman got starts but couldn't push on. We finished 191-7 and Yorkshire won by 42 runs. That might be the end for us in Challenge Trophy.
