  • 2 Country Test Heros

Could we have a poll on which country those players who played for 2 countries should play for?
    Here are a few W E Midwinter E & A, W L Murdoch A & E (he captained both), A J Traicos SA & Z,K C Wessels A & SA.

    Midwinter - Australia
Made his test debut, played most of his tests and played his final test for Australia. He lived in Australia since he was a child. Pretty sure he only played for England for one tour of Australia.

    Murdoch - Australia
Similar to above, all Tests bar one were played for Australia. Unlike Midwinter, was born in Australia too.

    Traicos - Zimbabwe
For his World Cup appearances mainly.

    Wessels - South Africa
He was the face of South African cricket when they returned to international cricket.

Traicos I liked the only Test bowler whose first victim on his return to Test was born since his previous one. Sachin Tendulker I'm inclined to say who else? But that would just show my age.

Wessells & Traicos should both be in the South African ATG`s, Wessells as already stated, was given the captaincy on there return to test cricket, over Clive Rice, and Traicos was part of the team that destroyed Australia 4-0 in 1969-70.

Really enjoying this thread! A poll would be great, though it depends how we define “should play for” — birthplace, cricketing legacy, emotional connection?
Midwinter and Murdoch both feel clearly Australian, especially given the bulk of their careers.
Traicos is such a unique case — two wildly different phases of cricketing history — but I’d lean Zimbabwe for the World Cup and the symbolic nature of his return.
Wessels is tough — he was the face of South Africa’s return, but also a very solid part of the Australian setup in the '80s. Feels like a true 50/50 case.

A few other interesting cases to throw in:
          • Eoin Morgan – Ireland or England? Born Irish, captained England to a World Cup.
          • Dirk Nannes – Represented both the Netherlands and Australia in T20s.
          • Kepler Wessels again, just shows how complex some careers were.
          • Ed Joyce – Another Ireland/England switch.
          • Luke Ronchi – Played for both Australia and New Zealand.
          • Sammy Guillen – Played Tests for both West Indies and New Zealand back in the '50s.
