    The Rise of Nagaland: Story

In 2018-19, the BCCI announced that nine new teams would be joining. One of these teams was Nagaland, a small western Indian state. Since then, Nagaland has not won any silverware, and the goal of this story will be to win them some.

Currently, Nagaland are a 1 star batting and bowling team, meaning they are among the worst of the worst. There are little to no players of note in this struggling team, with 34 year old all-rounder Shrikant Mundhe the most experienced of the bunch. Rongsen Jonathan, a 36 year old middle order batter and the 33 year old keeper Chetan Bist the only other players who have played in over 30 first class games. Obviously the squad is very inexperienced, and the first set of contracts will aim to bring in more experience, along with a few regens to develop.

Nagaland are in the First Class Plate Group, highlighting their struggles as a team.

So, in possibly the toughest challenge I have ever embarked on in Cricket Captain, can we win Nagaland some trophies?

        OD - 1 wicket @ 108 in 7 matches
        T20 - 0 wickets in 8 matches (5 overs)

Only stayed in the squad because I was losing money from terminating so many contracts.

        FC - 107 wickets @ 25.88 in 31 matches
        OD - 34 wickets @ 30.18 in 23 matches
        T20 - 56 wickets @ 14.98 in 35 matches

Will be our opening bowler, with his left arm seamers destined to be among the team's leading wicket-takers.

        Amol Jain - 21

Exciting young medium-pacer with decent upside, having 2nd XI bowling averages of 27, 26 and 26. Will get a chance to develop in the seconds but may get a chance at 1st team action

        Mayur Rane - 21

Young off-spinner who is a longer format specialist. His 2nd XI bowling averages of 23, 25 and 31 are not overly exciting, but he will be a developmental project.

        Varun Chakravarthy - 32

        FC - 1 wicket @ 105 in 1 match (39 overs)
        OD - 22 wickets @ 16.68 in 9 matches
        T20 - 51 wickets @ 28.22 in 54 matches

Definitely the biggest steal for us, Chakravarthy will provide control in the middle overs of white-ball games with his leg-spin.

            Baroda XI - H. Desai J. Singh A. Rayudu V. Mehta V. Solanki (+) R. Dalal K. Pandya A. Rajput A. Sheth, Rajesh Bishnoi, S. Sopariya

            Nagaland XI - S. Dahiya Y. Wassan G. Podder R. Jonathan M. Mehta C. Bist (+) S. Mundhe V. Chakravarthy V. Stephen N. Chishi M. Rane

Toss - Baroda won and elected to bowl

            Nagaland - 177 (20 ovrs) Y. Wassan 89 (56), G. Podder 35 (19), R. Bishnoi 1-29 (4)
A fantastic batting performance in our first game! Dahiya got things rolling with 16 from 7 then it was the Wassan show, hitting 14 fours and 2 sixes in a debut innings to remember. Baroda struggled with the ball, unable to contain Nagaland's power hitters, leaving them a big chase of 178

            Baroda - 181-4 (17.4 ovrs) V. Mehta 99* (48), J. Singh 24 (19), N. Chishi 3-44 (4)
A disappointing bowling performance, costing us the game. Chishi took 3 wickets inside 8 balls but then was carted, as was all our other bowlers apart from Mundhe, who finished with 0-19 from his 4 overs.

            Baroda win by 6 wickets

            MOTM -
            Vikas Mehta - 99 runs
