Hampshire CCC: Ending a 50-year wait?
This year marks 50 years since Hampshire last won the County Championship, having come so close in recent seasons but falling at the final hurdle. Hampshire have had lots of white-ball success in recent years, most recently famously winning the T20 Blast last year in arguably one of the greatest finishes to a final ever.

Hampshire have arguably one of the best bowling attacks in Division One, with the big three, Abbas, Abbott, and Barker, causing a huge threat for batters throughout the country. However, the trio aren't getting any younger and many Hampshire fans feel like time is running out to finally end the drought. The bowling is a clear strength, but there is an alarming lack of proven batting depth outside of the likes of Gubbins, Vince, Brown, and Dawson. There are, however, some promising young players coming through, many of which have already made an impact for the team, including the likes of Prest, Albert, Middleton, and Turner.

My goal is to develop these young players and try to end Hampshire's Championship drought as soon as possible, whilst dominating the white-ball competitions. The ultimate goal is to win the domestic treble.

    Squad:
Batters: Toby Albert, Nick Gubbins, Fletcha Middleton, Tom Prest, James Vince (Captain), Joe Weatherley, Ross Whiteley (white-ball)
All-Rounders: Keith Barker, Liam Dawson, James Fuller, Benny Howell (white-ball), Ian Holland, Dom Kelly, Felix Organ
Wicketkeepers: Ben Brown, Aneurin Donald, Ben McDermott (T20 overseas), Charlie Mumford
Bowlers: Kyle Abbott (overseas), Jack Campbell, Mason Crane, Scott Currie, Nathan Ellis (T20 overseas), Mohammad Abbas (overseas), Harry Petrie, John Turner, Brad Wheal, Chris Wood (white-ball)

During the Hundred, we will be without Vince, Weatherley, Whiteley, Dawson, Fuller, Howell, Crane, Wheal, and Wood, who have been selected for their various franchises. Wheal is also out for the season with a stress fracture.

County Championship: Hampshire vs Nottinghamshire (Southampton)
Hampshire: Weatherley, Middleton, Gubbins, Vince*, Brown+, Dawson, Holland, Barker, Fuller, Abbott, Abbas
Nottinghamshire: Duckett, Hameed, Mullaney, Clarke, Montgomery, Slater, James, Patterson-White, Broad, Hutton, Paterson
Nottinghamshire won the toss and elected to bat first.

Hampshire give a Championship debut to Middleton at the top of the order, opening alongside Weatherley who needs an early score to prove himself. Hampshire's pace attack looks potentially deadly, with Barker, Abbott, and Abbas backed up by Holland and Fuller, with Dawson's spin another option.

    Notts 1st: 285 (93.1) - Montgomery 60, James 46*; Holland 4-38, Barker 3-57
Hampshire started well with the ball, with Barker dismissing Hameed in the third over, but the visitors recovered slightly before Barker then returned to take two more, leaving Notts 88-3. The visitors scored freely off Abbott and Fuller, but Holland tore through their middle and lower order to take 4-38. A frustrating last wicket partnership added an extra 47 before Fuller had Paterson caught in the slips to dismiss Notts for 285, a decent start to the season for Hampshire but plenty of room for improvement.

    Hants 1st: 249 (73.2) - Vince 68, Gubbins 64; Broad 6-60, Hutton 3-53
With one over remaining in Day 1, Hampshire opted to send Barker out to open as a nightwatchman, but their plan failed when he edged Broad to slip second ball. When Weatherley and Middleton both fell in the first hour of Day 2, Hampshire were 34-3 and in trouble. Gubbins and Vince both played nicely for 64 and 68 respectively, but they lost another three quickly, including Brown first ball. Holland and Fuller pushed the score above 200, but when Fuller fell, Hampshire still needed 10 more runs for a first batting point. Abbott and Abbas scraped to 249, before Abbott was caught at short leg off an inside edge to leave Hampshire one short, and trailing by 36.

    Notts 2nd: 174 (53.3) - Hameed 52; Fuller 3-23, Abbas 3-41
Hampshire were off to a flyer when Abbas took two wickets in his first over, though it could have been three if not for a dropped catch by Brown. By the end of Day 2, Abbott and Abbas had shared five wickets between them, including the big wicket of Hameed in the final over of the day. The first hour of Day 3 was quiet as Notts built a slight recovery, but a fiery spell from Fuller as well as a wicket for Dawson saw Notts collapse, losing their last three wickets for just two runs, leaving Hampshire a potentially challenging 211 to win.

    Hants 2nd: 211-5 (73) - Gubbins 73*; Hutton 3-79
Hampshire knew they had plenty of time to reach the target, but they would need a good start against a strong Notts attack under overcast conditions. The openers duly obliged, adding 69 for the first wicket, before they both fell in quick succession. Gubbins took over and played nicely, reaching fifty for the second time in the match, a good start to the season for the left-hander. With support from Vince, Brown, and finally, Dawson, he saw Hampshire home 45 minutes into Day 4, receiving the MOTM award for his performance.

    Hampshire won by 5 wickets
    Pts: Hants 19, Notts 4
    MOTM: Nick Gubbins

County Championship: Surrey vs Hampshire (South London)
      Surrey
: Sibley, Patel, Head, Pope, Foakes, Smith, Jacks, Abbott, Atkinson, Worrall, Moriarty
Hampshire: Weatherley, Middleton, Gubbins, Vince*, Brown+, Dawson, Organ, Barker, Fuller, Abbott, Abbas
Surrey won the toss and elected to bat first.

Hampshire make one change from their opening win against Notts - Organ comes in on a pitch that's expected to take spin later on, with Holland perhaps being unlucky to miss out after his good performance in the first game with five wickets. This is potentially an early-season title decider, with these two teams so close at the top of the table throughout most of last year.

      Surrey 1st: 308 (96.2) - Head 81, Sibley 64, Patel 57, Pope 54; Barker 4-68
Surrey started very well with the bat, with their openers putting on a century stand for the first wicket, and continued throughout their innings, with all of their top four passing fifty. Just as Surrey were beginning to accelerate, Pope fell in the final over before the new ball, and then a magnificent spell from Barker, well supported by Abbas and Abbott, cleaned up the middle and lower order in a monumental collapse from 288-3 to 308 all out, the last seven wickets bringing only 20 runs. What had looked like a long few days in the field turned out to be a well below-par score from the position Surrey were in.

      Hants 1st: 257 (61.1) - Vince 110, Brown 55; Moriarty 5-82, Abbott 4-68
The clouds rolled in on Day 2, meaning it would be difficult for the Hampshire batters against a decent Surrey attack, and so it proved as the top three were all back in the pavilion within 40 minutes. Attack was the best form of defence as far as Hampshire were concerned, with Vince and Brown targeting the change bowlers, and Vince bringing up a run-a-ball fifty, and Brown going one ball faster a few overs later, but the reintroduction of Abbott shortly before lunch saw Brown caught behind for 55. Much of the afternoon was lost due to rain, and the restart saw two quick wickets fall. Vince was still going strong though, and brought up a first Hampshire century of the season with a cover drive off Abbott. After he fell, Hampshire inched their way above 250 for a batting point, but were soon dismissed for 257, trailing by 51.

      Surrey 2nd: 283 (79.1) - Head 124; Dawson 5-57, Fuller 3-47
Surrey survived the end of Day 2 with no loss, but Patel fell in the third over of the morning to Barker. That brought Head to the crease, who looked at absolute ease on his way to a magnificent hundred which included 19 fours. However, Surrey suffered yet another batting collapse, this time only adding 38 for the final six wickets, instigated by Dawson and Fuller, leaving Hampshire in with a chance, although a chase of 335 wouldn't be easy by any stretch.

      Hants 2nd: 335-8 (117.2) - Brown 89, Vince 79, Weatherley 61; Abbott 4-77
Weatherley and Vince had other ideas, though, braving the early losses of Middleton and Gubbins to take Hampshire to 103-2 at the end of another rain-affected day, leaving them with 232 to get on a sunnier Day 4. Both batters passed fifty in the first hour, Weatherley battling hard, reaching the milestone from 142 balls, and Vince strolling to his from 63. But then disaster struck, as both set batsmen were dismissed before lunch, Vince the huge wicket as he fell for 79, the score 175-4 and Hampshire still needing another 160. The situation then got worse for the visitors as Dawson was trapped lbw in the first over after lunch, shortly followed by Organ. Brown seemed undeterred though, as he reached fifty for the second time in the match, with the deficit now into double figures. The new ball would be key, and it was met with stubborn resistance until Barker fell to Atkinson. Hampshire reached tea on 296-7, now just 39 runs away with Brown going strong on 79*. Fuller was offering ample support and the runs required was now down to just 15 when Brown missed a straight one from Worrall. Fuller kept going though, farming the strike and eventually hitting the winning single, Hampshire winning by 2 wickets in a brilliant advert for Championship cricket, Fuller finishing with a valuable 32* to make it two wins from two.

      Hampshire won by 2 wickets
      Pts: Surrey 5, Hants 20
      MOTM: Travis Head

County Championship: Northamptonshire vs Hampshire (Northampton)
Northamptonshire: Azad, Vasconcelos, Procter, Gay, Keogh, Zaib, McManus, Taylor, Buckingham, Sanderson, White
Hampshire: Weatherley, Middleton, Gubbins, Vince*, Brown+, Dawson, Holland, Barker, Currie, Abbott, Abbas
Hampshire won the toss and elected to bat first.

Hampshire travelled to Northampton to take on one of Division One's two winless sides so far, Northamptonshire. They make two changes from the win over Surrey: Holland comes back in for Organ, and Fuller misses out through illness so is replaced by Currie, playing his first game of the season.

        Hants 1st: 294 (92.3) - Gubbins 53, Weatherley 51; White 5-83
Hampshire's opening partnership faltered again as the struggling Middleton fell early, but Weatherley and Gubbins added 103 for the second wicket, before they both fell in quick succession. Following an inexplicable run out of Vince, Holland and Barker played nicely, and some late hitting from the later got Hampshire close to a second point, in the end falling just short. It was an innings of many starts, where only two of the top eight failed to pass 20, but no one was able to go on and get a big score.

        Northants 1st: 506-8d (154) - Vasconcelos 115, Gay 86, Zaib 77, Azad 57, Keogh 51; Barker 3-86, Dawson 3-113
What Hampshire failed to do, Northants made sure they didn't make the same mistake. Vasconcelos took full advantage of the reprieve given when he was on 4, as Hampshire, despite keeping the runs down for the majority of the innings, struggled to make inroads against a determined Northants batting line-up. Only one bowling point was earned by Hampshire, who missed Fuller's impact bowling, and Northants declared after a flurry of wickets when looking to up the rate, but in a very strong position with a lead of 212.

        Hants 2nd: 272 (104.4) - Weatherley 75; Zaib 3-69, Buckingham 3-77
After losing Middleton early again, Hampshire were relieved to reach the end of Day 3 only two wickets down, with Weatherley and Vince fighting hard to keep Hampshire in the game. However, when Vince fell, Brown upped the scoring, hitting sixes off Taylor and Zaib, but disaster struck when Weatherley, Brown, and Dawson were all dismissed in consecutive overs, with Hampshire still 130 in arrears. A staunch rearguard action from Holland, who survived 120 balls for his 30, gave Hampshire a fighting chance, but no one was able stick around with him and Hampshire were eventually all out shortly before tea, setting Northants what should be an easy target of 61 in the final session.

        Northants 2nd: 61-1 (20.4)
Hampshire didn't want to make it easy for them, bringing the field in and really attacking, and eyebrows were raised at the early dismissal of Vasconcelos. They couldn't, could they? No. Azad and Procter saw Northants home with relative ease, inflicting a first defeat of the campaign on Hampshire, who were simply outclassed in all departments. Having said that, with two tricky fixtures to start the season, if Hampshire had been offered two wins and a loss, they probably would have taken it before a ball was bowled. The defeat leaves Hampshire second, behind Middlesex who have won all three games so far.

        Northamptonshire won by 9 wickets
        Pts: Northants 20, Hants 2

County Championship: Hampshire vs Warwickshire (Southampton)
Hampshire: Weatherley, Middleton, Gubbins, Vince*, Brown+, Dawson, Holland, Barker, Fuller, Abbott, Abbas
Warwickshire: Davies, Yates, Rhodes, Hain, Khan, Burgess, Barnard, Lintott, Ali, Norwell, Rushworth
Hampshire won the toss and elected to bat first.

Hampshire host Warwickshire as they look to get back to winning ways after defeat at Northants. Fuller comes straight back in for Currie in the only change made from that game. With just 62 runs from six innings, Middleton's place is under pressure, with Prest and Donald in good form for the 2nds.

          Hants 1st: 397 (135.1) - Vince 153; Norwell 5-89
Hampshire would have been pleased to have made a decent first innings score after their poor performance against Northants, as they passed 300 in their first innings for the first time this season. There were contributions from almost everyone, notably from Weatherley, Gubbins, and Holland, but only one batter managed to pass fifty. Vince held the innings together with his brilliant 153, but when he fell with the score on 391, the tail quickly folded as Hampshire were dismissed just short of 400. Only two batting points for Hampshire, but they would have been happier with the fact their batters had put them in a good position and the bowlers had some runs to work with.

          Warks 1st: 312 (85.5) - Hain 125, Rhodes 84; Barker 4-53
Warwickshire had a dreadful start to their reply, losing both openers inside the first six overs, but Rhodes and Hain played positively to see them through to the end of Day 2 with no further loss. They would end up adding 217 for the third wicket, with Rhodes dropped twice, before a double-strike from Abbott removed Hain and Khan first ball. Two more wickets then fell to Barker, and the visitors had lost four wickets for just eight runs, and Hampshire were eyeing up a sizeable first-innings lead. However, Ali had other ideas, and his swashbuckling innings of 45 reduced the deficit to double figures, before he was finally dismissed by Barker, the left-armer taking four against his former county.

          Hants 2nd: 277-6d (87) - Vince 132*, Holland 70; Rushworth 3-45
Hampshire were hugely grateful for their lead of 85 when they slumped to 46-4 and then 58-5, courtesy of some good bowling from Rushworth and Ali. Vince and Holland set about rebuilding, with both of them reaching fifties in the evening session, Holland's first of the season. They opened up in the morning, looking to set a tempting target for Warwickshire to chase, with Vince launching an assault on the visiting bowlers. He went into the 90s by depositing Rushworth for six over cover, then repeated the dose twice off Ali in the next over to make it double hundreds for the game. Holland fell with the partnership worth 163, but that didn't stop Vince as he crashed Rhodes for 18 in the final over before Hampshire declared, setting Warwickshire 363 to win, beginning with a tricky half-hour spell before lunch.

          Warks 2nd: 172-3 (73) - Hain 70*
The openers negotiated the rest of the morning successfully, but the introduction of Abbott after lunch caused problems, as Yates and Rhodes fell in consecutive overs, potentially opening the door for Hampshire. But Davies and Hain ensured that it was nothing more than an opening, taking the visitors to tea with no further loss. Abbott had Davies caught behind, but Hain looked comfortable as ever, and he and Khan safely batted out the rest of the day to salvage a draw, a result Hampshire will have been disappointed with as they were in control for most of the game. Hampshire will be concerned by the form of overseas pair Abbott and Abbas, who have only taken 19 wickets between them in the first four games, a far cry from the form they have shown throughout their time at Hampshire before this season.

          Match drawn
          Pts: Hants 10, Warks 9

County Championship: Kent vs Hampshire (Canterbury)
Kent: Compton, Crawley, Denly, Bell-Drummond, Cox, Leaning, O'Riordan, Logan, Agar, Quinn, Gilchrist
Hampshire: Weatherley, Holland, Gubbins, Vince*, Prest, Brown+, Dawson, Barker, Fuller, Abbott, Abbas
Kent won the toss and elected to bat first.

Donald's century for the 2nd XI made him a shoe-in for this game against Kent but he broke his finger in training the day before, so Prest comes in, replacing Middleton who has struggled early season. Holland shifts up the order to open in Middleton's place, and Prest will slot in at 5. Otherwise, Hampshire are unchanged for the trip to Kent, who sit 7th in the table.

            Kent 1st: 283 (84.1) - Cox 75, Bell-Drummond 71, Crawley 58; Holland 5-36
Kent made a solid start to their innings before Abbas removed Compton, and Denly followed to Holland shortly after. But the next two wickets added 150 between them as Kent began to settle down. That was until an inspired spell from Holland either side of tea, as he bamboozled Kent's middle order to be rewarded with just a second career five-wicket haul. The new ball saw the end of the innings as Barker caught Quinn off his own bowling, Kent maybe slightly short of par but with the quality of the pitch declining rapidly.

            Hants 1st: 453-8d (130.4) - Fuller 106*, Barker 99, Brown 67, Prest 54; Logan 4-97
It was looking like another case of batters getting in and not going on to make a big score, with each of the top four getting in but failing to capitalise. Prest looked good on his way to a maiden First Class half-century in his fourth match, and Brown also passed the landmark before they both fell. At 258-7, it was looking like the game would be fairly even going into the second innings, but Barker and Fuller had other ideas. They combined for a brilliant partnership of 195, surpassing Hampshire's record 8th-wicket partnership against Kent. Fuller reached a maiden First Class hundred with a straight drive, but Barker will have been bitterly disappointed to fall for 99, a leading edge off Quinn. At the loss of that wicket, Hampshire declared with a lead of 170, with half an hour left of the morning on Day 3.

            Kent 2nd: 278 (103.2) - Crawley 69, Denly 59, Compton 50; Fuller 4-54
Despite the supposedly erratic nature of the pitch, it seemed to be improving as Kent's openers put on over 100 between them, and it took until the introduction of first-innings star Holland for the partnership to finally be broken. Dawson then removed Crawley shortly before the end of the day to restore Hampshire's strong position. Kent continued to battle hard though, but the double-strike from Fuller just before the new ball to dismiss Denly and Bell-Drummond put Hampshire fully in the driving seat. Some poor slip catching only delayed the inevitable as Abbott and Fuller took advantage of a newer ball to skittle Kent's lower order, as the final five wickets fell for only 13 runs, Holland taking the final wicket to take his match tally to seven, Hampshire requiring 109 to win in two sessions.

            Hants 2nd: 109-2 (35.1) - Gubbins 42*
Hampshire made light work of the chase as they got home in the second over of the final session, having never really been in any trouble. A dominant performance from Hampshire who are back to winning ways after a loss and a draw, a match in which they take 22 points, leaving them sitting respectfully fourth in the table. One more Championship game against Northamptonshire awaits before the start of the T20, where Hampshire will be looking to retain their title.

            Hampshire won by 8 wickets
            Pts: Kent 3, Hampshire 22

County Championship: Hampshire vs Northamptonshire (Southampton)
              Hampshire:
Weatherley, Holland, Gubbins, Vince*+, Prest, Dawson, Organ, Barker, Fuller, Abbott, Crane
Northamptonshire: Azad, Vasconcelos, Procter, Gay, Keogh, Whiteman, McManus, Taylor, Buckingham, Sanderson, White
Hampshire won the toss and elected to bat first.

Some bad news for Hampshire before lineups were announced: Brown and Abbas have both picked up minor injuries and will miss this game. With Donald also injured and Mumford not considered ready for a Championship debut, Vince takes the gloves. Organ comes back in for Brown and Crane plays his first game of the season, with Currie also out for two weeks. With three front-line spinners, Hampshire have prepared a spinning wicket and they'll be hoping to take advantage, with Northants relying on the spin of Keogh only.

              Hants 1st: 373 (139.2) - Barker 78, Vince 65, Fuller 52; Buckingham 6-88
Runs were hard to come by early on against some disciplined bowling, but the openers added 81 before the fall of three quick wickets. Vince and Prest combined well, but the latter especially could hardly get the ball off the square. When they fell, along with Dawson and Organ, Hampshire were 233-7 at barely 2.5 an over. But Barker and Fuller continued their excellent form with the bat, setting another record 8th wicket partnership worth 131 as both passed fifty once again. Buckingham eventually removed both, and Abbott, as Hampshire were bowled out for a painstakingly slow 373.

              Northants 2nd: 439 (119.3) - Whiteman 149, Procter 103, Azad 63; Holland 3-34, Abbott 3-50
Just like in the reverse fixture, Northants were excellent with the bat, and spin went the distance, with all three spinners going at well in excess of 4 an over. Barker, Abbott, and Holland were offering control though, and the latter two were rewarded with three wickets each. Despite Abbas' lack of wickets, he has been keeping the runs down, and Hampshire missed that control when the change bowlers were on. Northants lead by 66, but the pitch is yet to start really spinning.

              Hants 2nd: 270-6d (80) - Holland 90, Organ 43*; Taylor 3-35
Hampshire started their reply positively, reaching 63 before Weatherley and Gubbins fell in consecutive Taylor deliveries. Holland reached an impressive fifty from 55 balls, but when he, Vince, and Prest fell, the runs dried up with Dawson and Organ unable to find their timing. The arrival of Barker saw a flurry of late runs as he finished 20*, Organ eventually reaching 43* and Hampshire declaring, setting Northants 205 to win in a session and a half.

              Northants 2nd: 188-8 (44) - Procter 63; Organ 3-26, Abbott 3-38
Abbott started well with the new ball, removing both openers early, but after tea, Procter and Gay raced out of the blocks to suddenly put Hampshire under pressure. They were forced to spread the field, but the gate was opened when Organ trapped Procter lbw and Dawson bowled Gay. Keogh then suicidally ran himself out and Organ bowled Whiteman, leaving Hampshire 40 minutes to take the final four wickets, on a pitch that was finally offering some assistance for the bowlers. McManus and Taylor survived the next few overs, leaving Northants 26 to win from the final four overs. But from the next ball, Organ had Taylor stumped, and despite the efforts of McManus, the loss of Buckingham at the other end saw Northants shut up shop and they survived the final two overs. The result leaves Hampshire third in the table, though 2nd and 4th place both have a game in hand. Now onto the T20s.

              Match drawn
              Pts: Hants 8, Northants 10
              MOTM: Ian Holland

T20 Blast: Somerset vs Hampshire (Taunton)
                Somerset:
Smeed, Kohler-Cadmore, Bartlett, Abell, Rew, Goldsworthy, Lammonby, Gregory, van der Merwe, Henry, Leach
Hampshire: McDermott+, Vince*, Prest, Weatherley, Whiteley, Albert, Dawson, Fuller, Wood, Crane, Turner
Hampshire won the toss and elected to bowl first.

McDermott returns from his minor injury to be available for Hampshire's first T20 game, although other key players are missing for various reasons. Howell is unavailable for the first half of the competition due to injury, and Ellis is still on IPL duty so will also miss the first few games. Hampshire give a T20 debut to fast bowler Turner, and there are opportunities for young batters Prest and Albert, as Whiteley and Wood also play their first games of the season.

                Somerset: 235-7 (20) - Kohler-Cadmore 73, Bartlett 50, Abell 49; Wood 2-40, Fuller 2-43
Somerset got off to an absolute flyer, taking 63 runs from the first four overs before Smeed was lbw to Dawson, but Bartlett looked in brilliant form, as he and Kohler-Cadmore both reached fifties at more than two a ball. Everyone went around the park, with spin proving particularly expensive. Hampshire pulled things back slightly at the death, with only 11 runs coming off the last two overs from Wood and Fuller, with three wickets falling.

                Hants: 106 (12.2) - Whiteley 48; Leach 3-41, Gregory 3-44
Hampshire would need an unbelievable start, but they got far from it as Gregory reduced them to 34-3 in 5.3 overs. Whiteley, though, hit his first three balls for 16, and two more sixes in the next over as he looked to wrestle back some momentum. McDermott had played nicely for his 36, but a Leach over in which he bowled both set batters changed the complexion of the game. No one but Whiteley and McDermott reached double figures, and Hampshire couldn't even get halfway to Somerset's score as they were pummelled by 129 runs.

                Somerset won by 129 runs

Hampshire: McDermott+, Vince*, Prest, Weatherley, Whiteley, Donald, Dawson, Fuller, Wood, Crane, Turner
Middlesex: Malan, Eskinazi, Stoneman, de Caires, Holden, Simpson, Hollman, Roland-Jones, Helm, Murtagh, Bamber
Middlesex won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Donald returns from injury and comes in for Albert as Hampshire look to recover from their dreadful start to the campaign, as they elect to bat first on what should be an absolute road.

                  Hants: 158 (20) - McDermott 54, Vince 32; Roland-Jones 3-19
Hampshire started well with Vince scoring quickly, but he fell just after the powerplay, shortly followed by Prest and Weatherley cheaply. McDermott was holding the innings together, but eventually fell to Helm after Middlesex took regular wickets. Brief cameos from Dawson and Fuller got Hampshire up to a respectable total, but based on the quality of the pitch, it seems unlikely to be enough.

                  Middx: 161-3 (15.5) - de Caires 48*, Eskinazi 43
The visitors made a decent start to their reply, despite losing Malan in the powerplay, as they reached 51-1 after six overs. Stoneman smashed three sixes in a row off Dawson, before Crane's first over went for 14 as the rate was reduced to a run a ball. Turner returned to have Stoneman caught behind, but de Caires started well, and even after Wood had Eskinazi caught at mid-on, Middlesex only needed 37 from the final eight overs. They got there comfortably within four, de Caires the star as he finished on 48* from 23, making it two defeats from two for Hampshire.

                  Middlesex won by 7 wickets

T20 Blast: Hampshire vs Surrey (Southampton)
Hampshire: McDermott+, Vince*, Prest, Weatherley, Whiteley, Donald, Dawson, Fuller, Wood, Ellis, Crane
Surrey: Head, Smith, Sibley, Foakes, Roy, S Curran, Patel, T Curran, Overton, Abbott, Moriarty
Hampshire won the toss and elected to bat first.

Ellis returns from the IPL and comes straight in for Turner. Some places in the team are under question after a very poor start to the competition.

                    Hants: 196-4 (20) - McDermott 98*, Vince 55; T Curran 2-41
A much better showing with the bat from Hampshire, the openers both reaching fifty and putting on 116 for the first wicket. Donald was elevated up the order but fell cheaply along with Prest. Whiteley struck 26 from 14 and Fuller hit both of his balls faced to the boundary to elevate Hampshire to 196-4, McDermott devastatingly short of a first Hampshire hundred on 98* from 57, including ten fours and four sixes.

                    Surrey: 197-5 (20) - Roy 44*, Smith 41; Dawson 2-36
The visitors made a decent start as they reached 49-0 after 5.5, but Fuller had dangerman Head caught behind off the final ball of the powerplay. Hampshire's spinners continued to leak runs until Crane had Sibley caught. At halfway, Surrey were 99-2 and making decent progress. But Fuller came back into the attack and bowled Foakes off the final ball of his third, and Dawson then dismissed Smith off the very next ball. Roy and Curran started positively, though a brilliant 17th over from Ellis leaked only six runs and brought the wicket of Curran. Surrey needed 32 from the last three, but Wood and Crane had gone the distance and still had one over each left. 10 came off Wood's over and Surrey took 12 from Ellis' last, leaving ten required off the final over, to be bowled by Crane. Two singles came off the first, before a boundary off the third. With Surrey now seemingly in control, Crane bowled two dots, Surrey now needing four off the last ball. Roy duly smashed it to the boundary as Surrey got home off the final ball.

                    Surrey won by 5 wickets
                    Pts: Hants 0, Surrey 2

T20 Blast: Essex vs Hampshire (Chelmsford)
                      Essex:
Khushi, Browne, Westley, Pepper, Rossington, Walter, Beard, Harmer, Nijjar, Cook, Dishan
Hampshire: McDermott+, Vince*, Prest, Weatherley, Whiteley, Donald, Dawson, Fuller, Wood, Ellis, Turner
Hampshire won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Hampshire make one change from the Surrey defeat as Turner comes back in for the struggling Crane.

                      Essex: 134-9 (20) - Khushi 25; Ellis 3-21, Dawson 3-31
Hampshire bowled tightly during the powerplay and Fuller reaped the rewards with two wickets in his second over, before Ellis and Dawson both took regular wickets. At 76-5 and with a long Essex tail, Hampshire would have had hopes of dismissing Essex cheaply, but despite slipping to 92-8, they scraped up to 134 thanks to a Nijjar cameo and some good fortune in the last over. A much improved bowling performance from Hampshire, especially from Dawson and they're grateful to have Ellis available.

                      Hants: 136-4 (14.5) - Prest 67*; Harmer 2-26
McDermott got Hampshire off to a flyer, taking 19 from the opening over from Harmer, but within three overs, he, Vince, and Weatherley had all been dismissed, Weatherley going for a duck for the third time in three innings. Prest was looking really good though, scoring all around the ground, and with support from Whiteley and Donald, saw Hampshire home with plenty of overs to spare, finishing 67* from just 36 balls, including eight fours and two sixes. A first win for Hampshire who will be hoping that they'll now have some momentum going into a busy week.

                      Hampshire won by 6 wickets

T20 Blast: Hampshire vs Sussex (Southampton)
                        Hampshire:
McDermott+, Vince*, Prest, Albert, Whiteley, Donald, Dawson, Fuller, Wood, Currie, Ellis
Sussex: Alsop, Orr, Rossouw, Haines, Rawlins, Clark, Bopara, Hudson-Prentice, Shipley, Archer, Lenham
Sussex won the toss and elected to bat first.

Hampshire make two changes from the win over Essex: the struggling Weatherley drops out for Albert, and Currie returns from injury to replace Turner.

                        Sussex: 200-7 (20) - Orr 92; Ellis 2-46
Hampshire started perfectly when Wood trapped Alsop in front with the first ball of the innings, but Orr and Rossouw quickly took the game away from Hampshire, scoring quickly during and after the powerplay. Hampshire had some brief respite with two wickets in Dawson's second over and Currie then removed Rawlins, but Clark and Bopara both provided excellent support for Orr who was playing beautifully. Fuller dismissed Orr finally for 92 and Ellis took two at the death, but Bopara took 16 off Wood's final over to push Sussex up to 200, a difficult target for Hampshire.

                        Hants: 173-4 (20) - Prest 56, Whiteley 54*, McDermott 51; Rawlins 2-34
Hampshire started slowly as Vince was caught behind early off Archer, but McDermott and Prest rebuilt, adding 86 for the second wicket. When McDermott fell, however, he was followed the next ball by Albert, and the required rate was around 13. Prest reached fifty, as did Whiteley off an impressive 26 balls, but Hampshire could never get close enough, and Prest was run out from the final ball, Hampshire still 27 short.

                        Sussex won by 27 runs
                        Pts: Hants 0, Sussex 2

T20 Blast: Middlesex vs Hampshire (North London)
Middlesex: Eskinazi, Stoneman, Holden, de Caires, Robson, Simpson, Hollman, Higgins, Helm, Murtagh, Bamber
Hampshire: McDermott+, Vince*, Prest, Albert, Whiteley, Donald, Dawson, Fuller, Wood, Currie, Ellis
Hampshire won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Hampshire are unchanged from the Sussex defeat, in desperate need of finding form quickly if they have any hopes of qualifying. Middlesex beat Hampshire heavily in the reverse fixture, so Hampshire will be hoping for improved fortunes this time around.

                          Middx: 133 (19.1) - Simpson 42; Ellis 2-25, Fuller 2-29, Currie 2-30
Hampshire had just the start they would have been hoping for with two wickets in the second over; a silly run out of Eskinazi, before Holden was caught behind off Currie for a duck, Middlesex 11-2. And it got worse the very next ball as Ellis castles de Caires with his first ball. Currie then took another in his second over, Middlesex finishing the powerplay in strife at 44-4. Two wickets for Fuller followed, and Middlesex were reeling with nine overs still to bat and only four wickets remaining. Simpson had targeted Dawson, but offered a simple return catch on 42. Another needless run out saw the end of Higgins, and Middlesex limped to 133 before Wood took the final wicket.

                          Hants: 134-2 (11.1) - Albert 60*, Prest 59*; Bamber 2-41
The chase didn't begin well, with both openers falling early to Bamber, but youngsters Prest and Albert played positively as Hampshire reached 60-2 after the powerplay. The hundred came up in the 9th over, which went for 19 as the pair carted the ball to all parts, Albert reaching a maiden half-century from 25 balls, and Prest recording his 7th in the format from 26 balls in the next over, by which point Hampshire were 130-2 after 11 overs, needing just four to win. Albert happily smashed his ninth boundary, to go with his two sixes, to complete a massive win for Hampshire, which keeps them in contention and drastically improves their net run rate.

                          Hampshire won by 8 wickets

T20 Blast: Hampshire vs Somerset (Southampton)
                            Hampshire:
McDermott+, Vince*, Prest, Albert, Whiteley, Donald, Dawson, Fuller, Wood, Currie, Ellis
Somerset: Smeed, Kohler-Cadmore, Bartlett, Abell, Rew, Goldsworthy, Banton, Gregory, Green, Bashir, Henry
Somerset won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Hampshire are again unchanged, hoping their win over Middlesex can finally give them some momentum as they host third-placed Somerset.

                            Hants: 100 (17.3) - Dawson 43*; Green 4-12, Henry 3-22
Hampshire started disastrously, a shocking powerplay performance that concluded on 34-7, with only Whiteley reaching double figures and three batters gone for ducks. Dawson stuck around, despite the losses of Wood and Currie soon after, and Ellis hung around for 28 balls, contributing 12, but allowing Dawson to reach 43*, a high score of the season in both competitions for the all-rounder, who has been quiet so far this year. Green took exceptional figures of 4-12 from his three overs, having effectively won Somerset the game in the first six overs, along with Henry.

                            Somerset: 101-1 (8.3) - Kohler-Cadmore 46*, Bartlett 31*
Somerset raced out of the blocks in reply before losing Smeed to Wood in the third over. But any whispers of a potential collapse were quickly silence by Kohler-Cadmore and Bartlett, who seemed to be batting on a different pitch to Hampshire's batters. By the time Dawson's first and only over went for 25, Somerset were almost home, and Kohler-Cadmore struck another two boundaries off Ellis to see Somerset through to a massive win, putting a real dent in Hampshire's recovering net run rate.

                            Somerset won by 9 wickets
                            Pts: Hants 0, Somerset 2

T20 Blast: Kent vs Hampshire (Canterbury)
Kent: Crawley, Bell-Drummond, Cox, Compton, Billings, Denly, Evison, Richardson, Hogan, Singh, Klaassen
Hampshire: Vince*, McDermott+, Prest, Albert, Whiteley, Dawson, Fuller, Organ, Wood, Ellis, Crane
Hampshire won the toss and elected to bat first.

Hampshire make two changes from the crushing defeat against Somerset - Organ comes in for Donald, and Crane is in place of Currie, on a pitch that is expected to offer some assistance for the spinners.

                              Hants: 180-2 (20) - Prest 77*, Albert 74*
Hampshire didn't get off to the best of starts again, finding themselves 8-1 when McDermott was caught for a single, but Vince attacked, particularly against Singh, but he then fell to Klaassen in the final over of the powerplay. However, it was that partnership again, as Prest and Albert took a few overs to rebuild before taking the attack to Kent. Prest struck four fours and five sixes in his knock, with Albert hitting eight fours and three sixes, on their way to a record 3rd wicket partnership against Kent, worth 132, with both batters recording career-high scores in this format. From the position they were in, they may have hoped for a few more, but some tight death bowling from Singh and Evison restricted Hampshire to 180.

                              Kent: 135 (19.2) - Billings 33; Crane 2-14, Wood 2-20, Dawson 2-22
Hampshire started strongly with the ball, Wood removing Crawley for a single in the third over and Fuller dismissing Cox in the next. Bell-Drummond was looking dangerous, but Ellis had him caught with his first ball. Compton and Billings briefly combined for a partnership worth 48, but they fell in consecutive overs, to Fuller and Crane respectively. Hampshire stifled Kent with spin from both ends, a welcome return to form for Crane as he also had Denly caught on the boundary. A late cameo from Richardson restored some respectability, but Hampshire cleaned up the tail with relative ease, with all five main bowlers taking two wickets each in an excellent team performance.

                              Hampshire won by 45 runs
