  • Training Questions

    I have a question regarding training, I know there's not alot of data available about training but maybe someone can help with their experience.

    Usually I just give extra batting practice for anyone who has 3 or less form.

    But if they have 3+ form, I train them in batting Technique, one after another in each series (Off side in one series, leg side in next series, then spin bowling, then fast bowling and so on), and then Aggressive and Boundary hitting too from Batting Specialism.

    Is this a bad strategy? Will training "Aggressive" and "Boundary Hitting" cause a player to get out quicker and lower his AVG? Is it better to train General Technique instead of Specific Techniques?

    No one knows and probably never will unless the devs give us more info. I remember one of them saying that they want to keep training stats hidden since you don't improve stats in real life but see a gradual increase.

    My strategy most of the time is just to use extra practice for form since that seems to be the most important factor for performance. If my main XI is in good form, I may put a general technique training on a young player. When the training system was overhauled to include accumulator, boundary hitting, etc., I tried using them exclusively for a few seasons and didn't notice a difference. The only training I've ever noticed a change in is aggression training and its impact on limited-overs formats.

      My guideline, and this is from the manual for years now has always been;

      Practice = form training.

      Technique = Long term actual skill improvements.

      You are generally better off with 'general' technique, because there simply isn't enough information available to warrant using specific technical training areas that you can use at a glance. If there were player attributes (that were visible) then it might be a different matter.

      You're better off improving them as an overall batter/bowler than trying to work out the minutiae of a system that is still, for all intents and purposes, hidden from the player.
