  • Features to improve the game

Having been an avid ICC/CC fan since ICC98 i clearly love the game. However there are a few features which I feel could really enhance the game and experience. Not in any particular order. I’m not a coder so don’t know how difficult/expensive it would be but would be very happy to pay 1.5/2x the price of current game for the inclusion of these features.

    1. Board Interaction/Expectations. When you’re hired at country/state etc or international level you should receive some interaction with the board. Setting expectations for an upcoming season/series/tournament and being judged (and fired-more later-on the results).

    2. Hiring & firing. If you don’t meet expectations or have a poor run you should be sacked as coach. Definitely at international level (when playing both domestic and international). It brings some realism and pressure to the matches. It also brings some value to building a good team (through the hard work of scouting/match managing etc).

    3. Backroom staff. A couple of areas here for improvement:
    a. Being able to hire and fire your own backroom staff (limited by budget/reputation) with differing levels of competence of the staff.

    b. Receiving feedback from your staff. Such as “player X is on good form and should be picked for the upcoming match(es).” “Youth player X is showing real promise in 2XI and would benefit from playing at a higher level to see if he has what it takes”. “X is on a poor run of form/in a bad mindset and would benefit from being dropped”. “X needs to rest for the next match otherwise he will get injured”. “X would benefit from technique coaching on for X technique”.

    4. Scouting. The game would really benefit from the addition of a scouting feature. Next opposition (best players and ways to bowl to them); youth players; signing players and the end of the season; international level. Should include (even if basic) some assessment on current ability and potential.

    5. Global game. The ability to play a global season, i.e. play English county cricket in the summer and then manage an Aus state side in the winter. Move between teams in different countries as the coach. This should include international so that you could work your way up as your reputation builds from Afg to Eng/Aus/India etc. If you get fired (see point 2 above) you would have to go down a ‘level’.

    6. Tour editor. Ability to add in warm-up games (international) and pre-season fixtures/tour (domestic).

    7. Finances at domestic level. More variable depending on performance (attracting bigger crowds), stadium/ground upkeep/improvement.

    8. DRS. Difficult to include but there could be a few decisions that you can decide (as the Captain (hence the game name)) to review or not. Difficult to do without making an easily identifiable pattern.

You might be willing to pay more but by increasing the price that much they will naturally decrease sales and shut themselves out of a lot of the lucrative Asian market.

The developers are a small team who have other jobs. That is why progress on the game is so painfully slow. Making this game does not make them rich. Looking forward, perhaps some type of crowdfunding initiative may be the way to go to get some of your ideas, and many other quality ones previously suggested in this forum, into the game.

Starting with including some sort of editor as so many other games, similar in size of developers, have done. Some has grown very much thanks to "help" from the buyers/gamers. The best compare would be OOTP (the baseball game) that started about the same time some 20 years ago with a very little crew. Today it just keep growing and fully employs several people. One can't compare with Football Manager for sure but still the market has others with very small budgets.

Then perhaps there is another reason not including an editor. It will be like asking us buyers/gamers to have a look under the hood. We might not like what we will see. As I understand these years have been mostly an improvement of tires and fanzy stuff like new seats and things. The engine is the one that really needs to be overhauled IMHO.
Any type of editor will kick this game forward by miles for sure.
