Sri Lanka vs South Africa 1st Test

South African side is fielding a tried and tested stable team while Sri Lankan bowling attack seems very weak. South Africans are undoubtedly going in as favorites.Click image for larger version

Toss : South Africa won the toss decided to bat!

            Day 1 :
Sri Lankan pace bowlers toiled hard but didn't manage to produce any opportunities , both openers have looked flawless till lunch.
As expected , South African batsman are dominated the Sri Lankan batsman.
After getting a reprieve by getting dropped off Binura , Shanaka finally managed to remove Dean Elgar for 40 , caught behind. Muthusamy followed shortly for 82 after putting up a useful partnership with De Kock , Chameera got his first wicket.
A late resurgence came from Sri Lanka as Shanaka removed both De Kock (68) and Du Plesis in one over. But South Africans managed to see off the new ball and finish comfortably
            Day 1 : Stumps (SA 291-4 Muthusamy 82 de Bruyn 73* Shanka 3 for 60)

            Day 2 :

Fernando managed to remove Bavuma early a quick fore 47 clean bowling him. Fernando and Shanaka made quick work of the tail bowling them out cheaply.
            South Africa 415 all out (T de Bruyn 108 , Muthusamy 82 , D Shanaka 5-89 , B Fernando 2-92)
both Sri Lankan openers remained not out in 40's at the end of days play.

            Day 3 :
Almost the entire day of Day 3 washed out due to rain.
Samarawickrama was among the runs as usual scoring 87. After a string of low scores and getting dropped from the side , Chandimal finally found form and scores a useful 73. Almost half the day was washed out due to rain
            Day 3 : Stumps (SL 263-4 Sadeera 87 , Chandimal 73 , D Olivier 2 for 68)

            Day 4 :
A bad day for Sri Lanka as Rabada ran though the Sri Lankan lower order after Sadeera , Chandimal , Mathews and Jayasuriya all passing the 50 mark.
            Sri Lanka 384 all out (Sadeera 87 , Chandimal 73 , D Olivier 3 for 99 , K Rabada 3 for 107)
            Day 4 : Stumps (SA 139 for 2 Muthusamy 63* , Shanaka 1 for 35)

            Day 5 :
South Africa batsman pile on the runs and made their declaration early , both Shanaka and Fernando managed to pick up a couple of wickets.
            SA 250-5 Dec (Elgar 52 , Muthusamy 75 , Fernando 2 for 39 , Shanaka 2 for 58)
Sri Lanka began their chase aggressively but the opener Sadeera was dismissed cheaply for 7. The all rounder Dasun Shanaka was sent up the order to produce a cameo and that's exactly what he did scoring 60 off 69 balls to put up a useful partnership with Chandimal after Dananjaya got out for 30.
After tea SA bought back as they removed the two veterans Asela and Mathews for 0 and 10 respectively reducing SL to 175-5. But all hopes were soon diminished as Chandimal bought up his 100 off 113 balls while Jayasuriya supported him playing an equally aggressive innings.
Sri Lanka made South Africans regret their decision to declare on this batting paradise as they chased the total down with 15 minutes to spare on the last day.
            Sri Lanka 282 for 5 ( Chandimal 116* , Shanaka 60 , Jayasuriya 56* , K Rabada 4 for 48)

Sri Lanka win by 5 wickets.
