For as many versions of the game I can remember, I have had problems taking wickets in the third innings of first class matches when the other team has even a modest first innings lead of around 40-50 runs or so.
Even on deteriorating pitches, my opponents will regularly score 350 plus for 5 at a healthy run rate, and I'll inevitably get bowled out for 200-odd fairly frequently. Big third innings scores do happen when I have a first innings lead, too, and sometimes in my favour when I have the lead, but this is when it's most noticeable. It seems quite rare for the team with a first innings deficit to bowl out the batting team cheaply in the third innings.
I feel like the match engine is skewed so there's too big a probability of the team with a small lead being able to "press on" and set an imposing target, when in reality all three results should be possible. Has anyone else noticed this?
