  • Game improvement ideas

    Hello,

I posted this back on cricket captain 2021 forum, i saw in the forum you had a volunteer to help flesh out a few regen systems so it might be a good time to repost

I was wondering if you would consider my ideas to make the game a little more interactive on the management side give the players some personality?

It would be nice to add player traits to the game to make it a little more unique, like:

fast/slow starter - quick or slow to get settled
nervous 90's - high chance to get out in 40's/90's
converter - makes big 100's and converts 50's but balanced by many low scores
mr. consistent - makes many 50s but does not convert to centuries (like steven flemming)
performs better in 1st innings than 2nd innings (and reverse)
flat track bully (performs better on batters pitch and worse on seamers pitch)
partnership breaker - better odds taking a wicket when batsman have made 50/100/150 run partnership
comes in pairs - better chance taking a wicket after one falls
bunny - cleans up tail - something like bowls better against batsman who average below 20 but worse against players averaging over 40
nervous starter - gets out a lot in single digits
    test/50/20 over speacialists

a system like this would add more personality to the game, someone like stephen flemming would always make starts but never a big score, it would be great to see those player tags so you can build your squad to certain styles. 2 players averaging 45 can then behave very differently

it would be nice to see a player rating system out of 100 for each type of shot spin/pace/front foot/back foot/ leg side/off side/aggression/defense so when we coach a player we can see the effect. it would be nice to tie this into the game engine and use it to build chances of scoring runs / taking wickets / defending so you can plan how to get the batsman out and how to improve a player. for example rahul dravid would have a high defense rating. it would add personality by making players renowned for certain skills - some sort of a visual indicator to show a players potential and skills to help decide if they are worthwhile

Regarding player development and the academy, would you consider:

ability to influencewhat type of player you want to see come through - batter, spinner, keeper, all rounder etc? you get sick of reloading saves to try and get a decent keeper coming through the academy.

it would be nice if spending more money on the academy gave you the option of more players coming through at a trade off of being worse players - if i spend max money on academy then maybe i get 5 players at the quality of spending the standard amount.

a little more advanced, it would be nice if you could see the up and coming players develop in the academy. say you had a squad of players 10? aged 14-20 or something like that at various stages of development that you can influence their skills - do you get a spinner who can bat a bit at the age of 14 to focus on being a great spinner or try and get them to become an all rounder at the risk of being just an average player at both? should that batter keep focusing on stoke making or focus more on defense to become a better first class player rather than a 50/20 over specialist. you can develop someone over a few seasons and try to make them good enough to start or do you sack them and try to start with someone new

    Kind Regards

Ah, the semi-regular ideas thread again.

I swear, it's the same ideas that get thrown around each time. From small thins like showing the opposition captain, to ways to make long-term saves fun.
A few of these are already in the game, just not given a objective number value that you can see. A lot of stuff is hidden purposefully. Other stuff might not be possible in the game engine.
Still, it's cool to see what ideas people come up with.

if some of it is already in the game, thats fine, but it doesn't need to be hidden from the player. at the moment players have no personality, they are just a name with some stats. showing tags to the player that shows their skill helps give you some investment into the player as a character.

i don't think a lot of this stuff should be hidden, after all it is a game and not real life. just because a player has potential doesn't always mean they will perform too

I don't disagree, but from what I've seen there is a "work it out for yourself" theme coming from the makers. In that sense, I don't want numerical ratings but traits is something I have supported for a while now, for the sake of depth and personality mainly. These days cricket is very data heavy, scouted, and analyzed to death, much more than when this game was first made. At least for established players in their team (and even other teams), coaches would know these small things pretty quickly.
