I also like to increase to 3 bars around the time a batsman is 50% settled then just chug along at that with occasional adjustments, similar to others noted up thread, e.g. dropping back to 1 or 2 just before/after breaks or if a bowler is really on fire, increasing up to 5 or 6 against a part-time bowler, etc. Once a batsman is fully settled and scoring well, I often will push them to 4 or even 5 against the type of bowling it says in their profile that they favour. Of course it's not fool-proof, but I do pretty well in 4- and 5-day games taking that approach.
