Hi Sureshot, I'm having this problem as well. Done all that has been suggested but no luck unfortunately.
I too am using Zone Alarm as my anti-virus, on a Windows 8 laptop

    Thanks

Are you getting the License button? if so I can sort you out with a new trial code, that isn't an issue.

And this worked after you changed the file properties on Runservice?

The trial button will grey out once the trial has finished, but if you've got the other options on the eLicense menu then it's a good sign.

Yorks - Are you getting to the eLicense menu or is that not starting either?

Re: Those of you on Kaspersky, I have another customer on our e-mails with this issue, I am currently exploring an issue with Kaspersky 2012 version as I've done some research and there seem to be some Win8 compatibility issues with the 2012 version of Kaspersky.

I'm getting to the the eLicence menu, clicking on the trial button, then the window disappears, and a second or so after the CricketIII MFC Application does from the Task manager as well. So the game isn't opening but the window is

Yeah I still get the license button, this box always appeared just nothing after I pressed trial. Even with all exceptions on zonealarm made for ICC13.

Also appear to be having the same issue for 2012.

I believe the issue here is ZoneAlarm, you both use it and it's known to cause issues.

Uninstall it and I'd be surprised if the issue doesn't go. There are other and better free options out there, Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast is what I'd go with.

If you're insistent on using ZoneAlarm then you'll need to contact their support about this.

              Hi,

I've done all that has been said! Even removed Mcafee totally after it wouldn't stop on services. No luck at all. Just that the load time on mouse is ALOT quicker than before, and that CricketIII is instant to remove itself from task manager.

No fixes at all?? I've had this problem over a year now, gave up playing when it first occurred. But its ashes baby and i want to play!

Hmm still no luck either after completely removing ZoneAlarm and swapping to Avast.

Okay, and are you sure you haven't got any other programs like iTunes or Skype open whilst trying to run the game? Both are known to cause issues. Check that you haven't got these running in the background.

Annoyingly, finding what is stopping the game from executing is a long and drawn out process as there are minimal clues as to the issue within your machine. As you'll see from this thread and similar threads from 2012 and 2011, people do find solutions, but they will vary, what with each PC being unique, it's difficult to track down. .

You have both followed the clean boot process as one other user had success with previously?

                  EDIT:

In addition, a customer on our e-mails who runs Kaspersky and Windows 8 had just managed to solve their issue of the game not running. They'd tried to update to Windows 8.1, but it wasn't compatible, they couldn't roll back so ended up doing a clean install of Windows. They installed and activated the game first and then installed Kaspersky. It's all working.

For those of you still with issues, have you added C:\Windows\Runservice to the exceptions on your anti-virus as well?

Windows 8 users, I'd advise disabling Windows Defender if you are using your own third-party anti-virus, there's a chance they are causing a conflict.

have found the problem to this.

i believe the licctrl service is not running on your machine which is stopping the elicense from being displayed.

what you need to do to fix this is:

Type services into the run command and select.
                    Scroll down to licctrl
                    check status
Status should be started, if not right click and select properties
then select startup type 'automatic', aply then ok
for the first time you may need to select start in the top left hand corner.

I believe with all the other suggestions this should sort your problem.

                    Thanks
                    Stephen R

If you're experiencing in-game crashes then it isn't likely to be related to this, in-game crashes can normally be resolved by re-downloading and re-installing the game.

Can those of you still with issues opening the game please try the fix as posted by ringes1 and report back on whether it was successful or not.

Can I again re-iterate for those of you on Windows 8, if you are using a third-party anti-virus software to please turn off Windows Defender.

Windows Defender in Windows 8 works differently to Defender in 7/Vista, etc, in Windows 8, Windows Defender is a full anti-virus. Running this with another anti-virus can cause issues.

                              Hi,

Please uninstall, download again (use Firefox or Chrome) and install. Please don't interrupt the download OR installation, if you use Skype or iTunes turn them off before installing.

If the above doesn't work, have you run previous versions?

If your trial has run out, please let me know.

                              Sureshot

Would I be able to get a new trial Sureshot? I got caught up with work after I asked the first time and want to try to get it sorted out. I'm just a bit iffy on buying it before I can make sure it starts up.

2012 is still working fine so fingers crossed it's just something simple with 2013 and my computer.
