  • Purpose of captain?

Does it matter? Doesn't seem to have any effect.

I'd still like to see it given importance, an option to choose the captain and he takes over field placings, for instance. Not sure what else.

Players specialised in captaincy, or gaining specialist honours once they get (successful) experience under their belt.

No you can't have the captain take over the field placings, that's what you're meant to do
I can think of a few things that could be implemented though:

    1. If a 'good' captain is selected, then the team morale could be higher and thus the teams perform better (not masses but just slightly).

    2. Certain players performing better or worse when selected as captain. I remember Sachin Tendulkar not performing his usual best when he was captain for India and I'm sure there are many who perform much better when captain.

    3. If the captain is too young or inexperienced then the players may not listen to him as much eg. if a naturally aggressive is told to be defensive he may still go for his shots or if a pace bowler is told to bowl to a plan of outside offstump he may occasionally go for a yorker of something. And of course if the captain's more experienced and respected then the guys will obey him more readily.

Yes Captains records will make a game stats much more better

      More points to add

1 - Before session we have to appoint captain for Upto particular series
after that seeing team performance we have to decide will to continue
as captain or drop This continue as cycle

2- Captain records as Most successful captain .

3- Media interaction and hate and love for captain
After Historical Retired Players Stats ,Captains Record

I just choose my captain based on who has the best form (stars).
        Is that wrong

I must admit, I don't like to. That's the role for the captain. And I know the game is called Cricket Captain, but the gameplay isn't. Just having it as an option would be good. Something to choose to do or choose not to.

I've always wondered if it affected your chances of winning the toss. I'd be interested to know whether it does affect anything though.

If you just leave all the default fields corresponding to the bowling aggression, you are basically letting the (AI) captain set the fields for you. After all, these are the fields that all AI captains set.
