2009 Features Requests

As this is a simulation I think some of the stuff being asked for could be easily incorporated in to the game, even if the stuff being asked for doesnt actually do anything

Things like in swingers, flippers, trick shots dont really add anything to a simulation for a player but you could still add these in, even if its just to give someone goose bumps

Anyways, the things Id like to see added are;

1. Better statistics. Cricket is all about statistics so after a tour of, say, England I want to be able to see who the highest run scorer is, who got the most wickets, what two batters did as an opening pair (giving all the stats associated with that opening pair).

Id also like to see things like how batters get out (a break down of LBW's, bowled, caught behind etc), which you could then use to determine how to bowl at that batter.

The way stats are currently handled is muddling. This could be added quite simply I reckon as all you are doing is making a number of calls to your database in the game.

2. Id like to see confidence being carried from game to game. So if someone gets a big ton in a game then they start the next game with high confidence and you see that through them being settled in already.

3. Id like to be able to negotiate with other countries for things like the number of tests and one day games in a tour. You could also add in variables so that if you are doing well as a test playing nation then you will get offered more tests in a test series. Conversely, if you are ranked lower then you will only get 1 or 2 test rubbers.

Same for one dayers, the higher in the rankings you are the more games people will want to play against you.

4. A player editor would be great for keeping people playing the game. This could be done quite easily as well (even the PS1 had a great editor for Shane Warne cricket).

5. The animations could be improved. Id like to see several different variations on fielders when they get someone out. At the moment all that happens is that the bowler throws his hands in the air and then stands around looking like Forest Gump.

Lets see some fielders running to each other for high fives or a bowler following through leaping in the air celebrating a wicket.

Same for batters...when someone gets a century lets see them celebrate it.

You could make this variable so that sometimes a batter will just hold their bat up and other times they will run around like they have just discovered sliced bread.

Also, how about the ability to have different camera angles for dismissals.

AND what about something like top 5 catches in a one day tournament etc?

These are purely cosmetic BUT would add immensely to game play.

Overall I think that statistics could be improved significantly in the game.

Agreed. I've taken to keeping a Notepad file with some stats just in case I want to look back at the end of a save game. While it probably keeps the save files smaller to wipe the slate clean constantly, it doesn't make for great retrospectives.

Ideas

These are my ideas for the 2009 game, many of which have probably been mentioned.

-addition of ball speeds during game day
-ability to improve bowlers techniques and add tricks to their arsenals (inswinger, outswinger, bouncer, increased pace, more spin, cutters, wrongun, doosra, etc), for example a young bowler has only a few tricks but as they play more cricket and recieve more training they should develop more accuracy and more tricks.
-the history of your career should be recorded and viewable throughout your career
-players records against other nations and particular bowlers and batsmen should be present, also top 5 performances by each batsmen and bowler should be shown.
-a limited player editor or create player option should be included so that users can include themselves in the game
-more leagues should definetely be included in the game, like australian domestic, south african and possibly indian.
-the training option should be improved, there should be team training, and the overall funds and quality of training facilities should affect the improvement of players. For example developed countries should have world class facilities and coach.
-also after each match, FC and int, media ratings of each players performances (out of 10)would be good.
-some players should be talented in only one form of the game, eg, world class 20 20 player but poor test player.
-it would be great if there was a contreversy element added to the game, with some players getting into trouble a lot and being suspended ( Andrew Symonds)
-Should be international retirements, seperate odi and test retirements and retirements during calender year
-crowd figures should vary and there should be home ground advantage.
-addition of morale for players

Overall I think that statistics could be improved significantly in the game. Hope this helps.

Nope, this save is using the patch (8.14). I play a lot so I get through a fair bit of gametime.

I'm sure that the game has special attributes, as I've seen googlies from my leg spinners. But, like the other attributes of the player they are hidden.

Not sure of the betting aspect as a new feature of the game. I don't see how it would work, you say it would make players look at other teams more closely, do you mean other AI players or human players in the on-line mode?

Jim, Mitchell - I agree with you, you used to be able to save line ups on older versions. I believe it should be a relatively easy thing to include for 2009, I shall forward it to Chris along with some of the other suggestions going around.

I still noticed the big second innings scores after pitiful first digs after the patch. I was playing as Somerset vs. Hampshire in 2014, I was struggling at 9/68 before lunch on Day 1, and I decided to declare to avoid an embarassing score like that on my record sheet. I then turned around and bowled Hampshire out for 215 just before stumps, Day 1 (shoulda done the screenshot but oh well.). Anyway in the second innings I made 7/615 dec, and then bowled Hampshire out in the last hour of Day 4 for 311 chasing 468. Realistically, this shouldn't happen.

Looking at your game date you are quite a long time into the save. The changes made within the patch to the match engine will only with new saves. Database changes work with old saves.

How about betting, Special Attributes and scenario creator

Hello,

How about adding special attributes to players like flipper, and variation, like a bowler being capable of more variations and this should increase with exp. an clear indication of the importance of exp.

For batsmen Reverse sweep, picking the flipper etc.

And also when one gets selected for the national team one should come back with more exp. points. and these exp. points should in return get converted to variation and for batsmen keeping nerves in high pressure situations.

Also we could give a new dimension of betting. Parallel betting will make users look closely at other matches

I like scenario creator, create your own team your own scenario and challenge other users online with a team of their choice. or perhaps even challenge the AI.


Looking forward to your opinion on these... or at teh least an inclusion in the new update ))

Potential Gameplay Improvements

Also, I have too noticed the AI batsman shutting up shop when chasing in the 4th innings, even if they only need 3.5 an over. In today's game, batsman are more likely to try and chase 300 in 75 overs than 10 years ago (except India, refer 1st Test vs Australia, Oct 08).

Powerplays.
I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but it seems that every AI team uses the three powerplays all in a row in the first 20 overs, or maybe leaves a one over gap. This should be randomised a lot more. I was once 0/134 off 15 overs, and England used the third powerplay. Not even the dullest of captains would do this. I guess the new rule where the batsmen choose one of the powerplays need to be implemented.

What about the ball change after 35 overs? Worth a look at introducing into the gameplay. A harder ball, more boundaries.

One last thing...OVER RATES. Come on, seriously, when was the last time a Test team bowled 102 overs in one day? When was the last time they bowled more than 90 overs in one day? I think this is a major flaw in the gameplay, as it allows for more overs, more time, and more chances for a result than in a real Test Match. I'm sure something can be done about this, maybe change the times each overs goes for, rather than a set time for quicks, mediums and spinners (I once bowled 124 overs in a day with 3 spinners). Also, maybe chuck in delays, like sight-screen movings, field changes, and then place restrictions on the fielding team to get the overs in in time, or the skipper faces suspensions. That would be awesome.

That's all I can think of atm, but I'm sure they're pretty valid and shouldn't be too hard to implement. Let me know what you think guys.

I think we should be able to use international teams online, I dont understand why we can use club teams but not international teams. Not being able to use international teams online kind of puts me of using it on single player as I like to build my team up on single then use it online.
Probably been mentioned before but I would also like to see realistic bowling actions, in the game fast bowlers all bowl exactly the same and so do spinners, would be nice to have some variety with people like malinga slinging it down or ntini bowling wide of the crease with his unique action.

My Thoughts

I'd like to add my support to a couple of previously mentioned features and put forward a couple of my own.

* Being able to declare in an interval or overnight without losing any time.
* Being able to instruct a bowler to attempt to keep a batsman on strike
* More stats or more detailed stats
* Everyone in the squad should receive training not just some of them.
* Ex-players retire and become coaches to provide provide extra training.
* More realistic numbers of 6s in one day and T20 games
* More realistic scoring rates in T20
* The Champions Trophy and World T20 Cup
* Seperate ODI and Test squads

I would, also, like to see new skills for bowlers like swing, reverse swing, yorker, good slower ball, variety of pace, googly, doosra, slider and so on. There should also be some bad skills as well like spraying the ball around, tendency to no ball etc. These good skills are the kind that could develop through time and coaching. By this I mean, that it would be very rare (but not impossible) for a 17 or 18 year old to be able to reverse swing a ball but with experience and coaching this could happen. It is often the variety that gets a wicket (particularly on unhelpful pitches). For example, a spin bowler with lots of "tricks" on a pitch that isn't spinning could still be dangerous but one who has few tricks would not be (think of Shane Warne's bag of tricks compared to Monty's repetitive bowling of the same ball). Introducing these skills would also set international bolers apart from some county bowlers.

The second thing I'd like to mention is feedback. ICC still feels very much a one way game. There is little interaction between me as captain and the players, the coaches, the club, the team, the fans or the media. I'd like to see:
* Expectations from the club or board at the beginning of the season
* A summary of how the board/club feel I have done at the end of the season
* Feedback from coaches (which would get round the whole displaying attributes discussion) to say who is improving in which area (and development of the new bowling skills mentioned above)
* Feedback about performances in local and national papers, from websites etc.
* Feedback from players when there morale is low
* Feedback on career milestones
* Feedback when players are dropped
* Feeback from fans when controversial selections are made in international teams

etc. etc.

Just anything to make the game feel more two-way. I appreciate that there maybe licensing issues with media names but there is no harm in saying after a game that "A local paper has praised young bowler x's bowling performance, in particular the way he bowled under pressure and identified him as one for the future"

This would give you some feedback on attributes without actually displaying them ... feedback would also add some pressure to the role if you fail to live up to expectations which could lead to being sacked or it could be used to allow players to feel more like members of a team as opposed to pieces of equipment.

My first post here, just want to say I absolutely love Cricket Captain 2008 and the previous versions, they have kept me awake for many nights and many sick days have been used.

I have a few ideas that could possibly enhance the fun of it...

Media
A huge aspect of Cricket, especially on an International level is the media. Without it we probably wouldn't know what's going on in a test half way around the world. Ability to set players up with interviews or advertisements to receive endorsements for the team. This could lead to better brand of equipment and kits.

Stadium
If need be you should be able to rename and upgrade your stadium to receive more money. Nothing too complicated just simple things like, more seats, drink vendors, hiring stadium out to other sporting communities etc.

Sponsors
Most modern management games these days have sponsors of some sort. Here it Australia every trophy, team and just about every stadium is named after some sort of brand which in turn allows the club to have more money to play will. I think it's a little dull that the only thing we use the budget for is players, I simply hate buying good players and having to dig out of my Physio, Youth Team and Training.

Betting System
I am by no means encouraging gambling in the game but instead show odds for the game, favourites to win. Perhaps even at the start of the start of the season have player expectation, whose most likely to finish with most runs/wickets, which team is most likely to take home which championship etc.

With the ability to spend money on more things it opens up a whole new world of possibilities from a player getting on the piss too hard, or a player goes fishing instead of coming to training.

These are just ideas to make an already perfect and enjoyable game even more addictive and MARKETABLE!

Hey.

Been playing the game alot recently, and just a few things that I think could be improved which may have already been mentioned, but I can't remember lol.

1) Instead of viewing RECENT figures, would it be possible to set it up so you can see the recent figures for certain series'? I am playing as India atm, and I lost the first test match, so I looked at recent figures to see who can be dropped - but it showed me lots of recent figures, and it was just a bit hard to determine who was the best or not. It would be better to see recent figures for the series, rather than matches that the players had played 3 months ago...

2) Stats against other teams - I think it would be good to see previous results for players against different teams - for instance, again as India, it would be good to see the players previous scores against certain teams, like batting averages, high scores, wickets taken etc. - since someone like VVS Laxman has a higher batting average against Australia thab others, and seeing Current Batting Average is not always as helpful.

3) Something like Morale of the Players would also be useful, even if a player is in rubbish form, they may still think they can get a big score. Or a player in good form may be having rubbish morale. And a team's morale could affect performance on the pitch. Would be interesting to have something other than just their form to determine how good they are.


Just a few ideas. Dont know what others think.

i believe this game can be as good aswell and i only started playin cricket captain this year but am now in 2018 with lancashire 10 times league champions!! i would like to see grass rootes cricket included like the chance to make ur own team and play against made up amatuer teams to fight ur way into the leagues or sumthin just an idea and aswell the attriuted idea is great i would like to know how good du-plessis is seeing as he scored 3621runs in 2016
