  • Big Bash Dynasty - Adelaide Strikers

After a while away from the game, I have decided to begin a new save with my favourite BBL team, the Adelaide Strikers. We always manage to put a good squad together but one way or another end up falling apart season after season and disappointing. So, I have decided to make it my job to rebuild and retool this Strikers lineup, and trying to create a Big Bash Dynasty.

MEET THE TEAM FOR BBL 14

    Batters

    Travis Head
A servant of this franchise, with many great memories. Unfortunately won't be available for much of the season, but expect him to make an impact when he is.

    Henry Hunt
Doesn't have much T20 experience but very good in the longer formats. If he can transition his form from FC to T20s he could be a valuable asset.

    Thomas Kelly
Promising youngster who can hit a very long ball. Surprisingly has never scored a 50 in 27 innings.

    Chris Lynn
Maybe the best Big Bash player ever, everyone knows what Lynn brings to the table. Has been somewhat successful in Adelaide after over 100 games representing Brisbane.

    Alex Ross
Back in the blue after a long stint with the Thunder. Knows as the "Sweepologist" by many, he is very handy in those middle overs.

    Jake Weatherald
The leading runscorer in Strikers history, he will be very important for our chances at a title this season.

    Keepers

    Ollie Pope (OS)
A part-time keeper, but very destructive batter. Has a very high strike-rate of 139.3 in the format.

    Alex Carey
Very consistent for the team season after season. Along with Head, will miss a large chunk due to Test duties.

    Harry Nielsen
Backup keeper to Carey, is good with the gloves but not so much with the bat.

    Numan Shah (OS)
A 19 year old from Afghanistan with high upside. Could start with the gloves ahead of Nielsen.

    All-Rounders

    Matt Short
The captain of the team, typically opens the batting and bowling. Will need a big season from him if we are to do well.

    James Bazley
Certainly no slouch with the bat, but struggles with his economy rate bowling-wise.

    Jamie Overton (OS)
The big all-rounder is back for his second season at the Strikers. Very strong with the bat and does damage with the ball, whether it is in the powerplay or at the death.

    Beyers Swanepoel (OS)
A new signing from South Africa. More of a bowling all-rounder averaging just 20.1 with the ball alongside a handy economy rate of 7.79.

    Bowlers

    Cameron Boyce
Seasoned legspinner whose experience will be key. Doesn't spin the ball much but varies his pace well, keeping his economy rate down.

    Jordan Buckingham
Highly-touted young quick with plenty to prove. Might not be in the team much but expect a lot from him down the line.

    Brendan Doggett
Knows how to swing the new ball but is a liability at the death with a high economy rate.

    Lloyd Pope
Fan favourite with a high strike rate and high economy rate. Will probably form a spin duo with Boyce.

    Henry Thornton
Noted wicket-taker who can always break a partnership. On the flip side, does leak runs quite often.

    Nathan Coulter-Nile
Veteran bowler who has signed a one-year deal. Very experienced especially at the death, with a range of variations and slower balls.

    Sam Elliott
Young quick with little experience in any format. Probably should be listed as an all-rounder with a FC average of 70.

      Adelaide v Brisbane

      Adelaide XI - M Short, N Shah, C Lynn, J Weatherald, A Ross, J Bazley, B Swanepoel, J Overton, C Boyce, N Coulter-Nile, L Pope
      Brisbane XI - M Renshaw, C Munro, N McSweeney, T Alsop, D Solway, H Burdon, N Radhakrishnan, M Neser, N Smith, X Bartlett, S Johnson

      Brisbane 6/191 off 20 overs (T Alsop 85*, H Burdon 41, C Boyce 3/28) def Adelaide 10/178 off 19.4 overs (C Lynn 73, J Bazley 31, X Bartlett 5/45) by 13 runs

A rough start to the comp for us. Our start with the ball was incredibly good, taking wickets and keeping the runs down as they were 4-72 after 10 overs. Unfortunately we couldn't keep going, as Alsop and Burdon put on 75 quickly, before their tail wagged and set us a hefty 192 to win.

Short fell first ball, putting us straight onto the back foot. Shah and Lynn put on 43 before Shah fell and no one else apart from Bazley supported Lynn as we fell short in the last over despite Coulter-Nile cameo of 15 off 5.

        Adelaide v Sydney Thunder

        Adelaide XI - M Short, T Head, C Lynn, A Carey, J Weatherald, J Bazley, B Swanepoel, J Overton, C Boyce, N Coulter-Nile, L Pope
        Thunder XI - D Warner, S Konstas, C Bancroft, O Davies, S Billings, A Cahill, C Green, D Sams, N McAndrew, T Gray, T Sangha

        Sydney Thunder 10/183 off 18.3 overs (D Sams 53*, D Warner 34, N Coulter-Nile 4/40, L Pope 3/35, C Boyce 2/27) lost to Adelaide 4/187 off 19.5 overs (C Lynn 82, M Short 43, J Weatherald 36*) by 6 wickets with 1 ball to spare.

They came out of the blocks firing, scoring 60 off the first 5 overs in an ominous display. A collapse ensued, as they lost 6 wickets for just 43 runs with the run rate dipping, before a show from Dan Sams as he smashed 53 off 28 balls to give them a very good score of 183.

Head fell in the third over, but Lynn and Short were not fazed. They put on 90 for the second wicket before Short fell. Despite Carey failing, Weatherald came out all guns blazing, getting it to an achievable 10 from the last over, It started badly as Sams rearranged Lynn's stumps, before a leg-bye saw Weatherald back on strike. He smashed a six over cover, cut one backward of point for a triple, before a cover drive for 4 from Bazley saw us over the line in a thriller.
