  • Player Retirement

Is there any way to prevent player retirement? Some kind of player editor or anything like that? Also, is there any way to change the format of my game (i.e, changing difficulty or changing from International Career to managing a county)?

I guess you could create a backup save before the contract screen and if the player you don't want to retire retires, reload your backup save and try again until they don't retire.

It’s completely natural for players to retire, as you will from your job when the time comes. We’ve just watched the latest great having to bite the bullet, our greatest bowler Jimmy.
As players reach their twilight years their performance and fitness wane as irl and the game should and does reflect that perfectly.
At what age do you think retirement should take place? At 40? At 50? Totally unrealistic and we don’t see many of our cricketers still playing at over 40.
Same as Wilted suggests, save before contracts and you may prolong the agony for a further season, or better still play an earlier version and you’ll have your favourite player a few more years then. Just a suggestion….

It would be good if rather than receiving the retirement message prior to the contract window that there was a separate tab once you get there. E.g. Available (or whatever its called), youth, overseas, squad budget, retiring.

The retiring tab would list whomever you had retiring and give you the option to ask them to reconsider. This would be handy in cases like my recent Derbyshire save where Wayne Madsen had a solid if unspectacular season and then retired. Picking to replace him were thin in the off season a did have liked to have been able to say "fancy another season mate because we're a bit short here and you've still got it?".

Some combination of age, luck and remaining ability could then influence whether they accept the offer.

I'd also like to see the ability to release players at any point in the process as well. Annoying when you have a poor second choice keeper but end up hanging on to them because you can't be sure there will be a decent replacement available and then it turns out there is.

Lastly if another county has barely used a player then be handy to be able to offer to buy out their contract and sign them without having to wait years for them to be released having just sat unused in their squad.

I don't mind people retiring, I just like a little bit of realism and would love to play a series knowing that it's the last one my player will play, if that makes sense. Jimmy didn't just retire on a random away series versus Sri Lanka, right? It's like that for me.

That's a good point, would be nice if a message could pop up during the players last season confirming they will retire at the end of the season.

Think of all the Test back at least as far as Bradman who said. "One more season 40 is a pretty effective cut-off." A lot start looking for an out once they turn 30.

A good captain will know when the ‘end is nigh’ for a player, but an indication would obviously be a forewarning, so yes we’re all on the same side with that one. Sadly it’s currently missing from the game and no retirement indication whatsoever for the International players, so let’s hope something can be added?
Once had J Root averaging 12.57 at Yorkshire aged 37, already thrown out of the England side. I knew at that point Joe was going to hang up his bat, which he promptly did.

Hm. I guess that makes sense. The bigger thing I was wondering about was whether there was any way to change the game mode from an International Career to a Full Game. I can move around International teams, but I would like to manage a County Side if possible.

Currently you can’t resign from an International post to take up a club post. You can do this the other way round, if you’re successful with a club you will be offered your Country of choosing at the start of the game.
Similarly you can’t change the difficulty either, Normal to Easy etc.
