Steam trouble?

I have just returned from a 12 day break, and now find that I cannot play either CC2016 or CC2015. On attempting to start game, it says, ¬¬Steam not initialised. The Steam client must be open to play this game.``
As a techno phobe, what have I got to do to remedy this situation?

Firstly, try restarting your machine, then try running the game.

Check that Steam is up to date:

Open Steam on your machine, select Steam from the top toolbar and then Check for Steam Client Updates.

Please let me know if either of the above fix your issue.
