  • Mission Impossible!!!

A new story begins after my computer crashing and me losing the save file to my Completionist series.

This one will be Mission Impossible. The challenge is to bring the lowest rated English County side (Derbyshire) and the lowest ranked international team (Ireland) from rock-bottom to champions.

I want to have minor successes in the first few seasons, but this is not going to be easy.

    To better map out what I would like to achieve within the first few years, I have written up a set of goals;

    Derbyshire Goals

    First season
Make the KO stage of either the OD or T20 comp
Sign and develop some promising youth prospects
Have 2 players reach at least 1000 FC runs and 2 take 50+ wickets

    Short term
Work our way toward promotion in the CC, hopefully within 2-3 seasons
Prop up our young bowling attack
Begin to consistently make the KO stage of LO tournaments

    Long term
    Win some County Championships
Keep balance in the squad, not having half our list going off to the 100
    Maybe even break some records?

    Ireland Goals

    First season
Make the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup
    Win some series
I am going to focus mainly on youth talent, so developing some young players would be nice!

    Short term
Qualify for the World Cup (next year)
Start to climb the world ratings
Have some players reach the top 10 ratings for either batting or bowling

    Long term
    Win some world cups
Overall, be more competitive against teams such as India and Australia.

    Ireland Schedule

    2 T20I's v IND (26 - 28 Jun)
    3 ODI's + 3 T20I's v NZ (10 - 22 Jul)
    2 T20I's v SA (3 - 5 Aug)
    5 T20I's v AFG (9 - 17 Aug)
T20 World cup (Mid October to early November)
    ODI Tournament v SL + SA (12 - 18 Feb)
    2 Tests, 3 ODI's + 3 T20I's v BANG (1 - 25 March)

We will have a relatively good run with Derbyshire early on, and should get through almost all of our T20 group matches, before leaving to captain Ireland. Unfortunately we will miss most of our OD games and a handful of FC games.

      Derbyshire Squad

      Batsman

      Harry Came
Not going to be a starter, with very poor averages. Unless he is able to perform extremely well, will be on the chopping block come the next contracts

      Leus du Plooy
Will be a lock at 4 throughout the season, but unfortunately will be missing the OD comp as he is heading off to the 100. I expect him to be among our highest run scorers. At 27, has plenty of cricket ahead of him.

      Billy Godleman
Not a certain starter with openers plentiful throughout the squad. Has a 3 year contract, which may be his last (aged 33).

      Wayne Madsen
The veteran of our batting order, Madsen supplies stability at no. 3 for us. Another player who we will lose for the OD comp.

      Shan Masood
One of our main overseas signing, Masood will be a guaranteed starter up top with either Wagstaff or Reece. Hopefully he won't be picked up by Pakistan for Internationals

      Mitchell Wagstaff
A young opening bat who I am going to try and develop into a strong opener for the future.

      Thomas Wood
A player who I will be quick to cut next season, and will hardly get a game.

      Joshua Ferguson
A youth bat who I picked up, and an opener in LO. Has good 2nd XI averages of 47, 46 and 38 respectively.

      Keepers

      Brooke Guest
Our first choice keeper will be getting plenty of game time first season, but unfortunately doesn't have great stats.

      Harry Caton
A young keeper who will probably be developing in the 2nds for a few seasons before getting a long run at it.

      Regis Chakabva
I signed Chakabva on a 20 over only deal, as our keepers are not very good. Adds good batting depth and can bat anywhere in the order.

      All-Rounders

      Luis Reece
Someone who I feel is capable of both opening the batting and bowling. Will be available for the OD comp which is a good bonus.

      Hilton Cartwright
Another player on a 20 over only deal. Will be useful at 5 or 6 in the format, his finishing abilities will be very handy.

      Anuj Dal
A player who probably shouldn't be an all-rounder. With a mere 20 FC wickets, and only having bowled one T20 over he will be more of a batsman.

      Alex Hughes
Pretty poor bowler, but can bat and may get a few games here and there

      Hayden Kerr
Our reserve overseas player, and someone who is ridiculously OP in CC2022.

      Mattie McKiernan
Average batting and bowling stats, but may get some game time due to lack of better options.

      Alex Thomson
At 28, hopefully is at his peak, but is far from a starter.

      Bowlers

      Ben Aitchison
Decent FC stats, but not much in the LO stuff. Will be a starter, and I hope for him to make big strides in his development this season.

      Michael Cohen
With the second best FC bowling average in the squad, will be a guaranteed starter. Hopefully his pace can rattle some teams

      Sam Conners
Another young bowler who I would love to develop this season. Not a certain starter, but will most likely be there and thereabouts this season.

      Suranga Lakmal
A big name in our squad, but with an FC average of a below-par 31, will need to impress massively to keep his contract going forward.

      Dustin Melton
Not someone I will be using very often, but I feel he has some potential.

      Nick Potts
A good youth bowler who should be getting some game time this season.

      George Scrimshaw
A t20 specialist, the exact format I am going hard at this season. Should play most t20 games

      Mark Watt
Our first choice spin option only averages 40 in the longest form, so that's a big worry. Good numbers in LO cricket.

      Peter Norman
My second and final youth signing (along with Ferguson), Norman will be developing in the 2nds for most of this season. Averages 26, 21 and 27 with the ball in 2nd XI cricket

I should also add that this is my first time ever captaining Derbyshire. So if anyone has any tips for the lineups in any format, please speak up.
