First of all, really enjoying the new coaching options in this year's iteration of the game. Splitting agression and opening status between red and white ball is a significant step forward.
However I can't help but feel that almost all Technique and Specialism coaching takes far too long to take effect.
I don't necessarily mind it taking a season or two to take a player from defensive to average aggression wise, as after all if it was quick and easy then everyone would be striking at top end rates in all formats right?
However I do think that moving players between opening and middle order should be much more dynamic. After all in both red and white ball, especially the latter it's not unusual to see players moving between opening and middle order slots fairly often. For instance this season we've seen Glamorgan use Northeast as a T20 opener whereas he'd been used more often at around 4 by Hampshire. Similarly James Bracey has moved to open for Gloucestershire after previously batting a bit further down.
I feel as such that especially with limited overs opener/middle order timeframes these should be much quicker - couple months max. Therefore as a County I can for instance start the season and have a middle order player ready to open by the time the Blast starts.
Equally I think that currently it's far, far too hard to turn a part time batter or a bowler who can bat a bit into an all rounder. In fact with one exception I've never had it happen. Said exception was turning a bowler into an opening all rounder with opener training. I'm not actually sure whether it's Middle order training or batting technique to make a normal all rounder? Either way I feel it should be much more achievable to do this.
Lastly it still feels like general technique coaching doesn't do anything. I'd say this should be significantly more effective. Given the level of coaching and performance analysis players get these days I think it's realistic that a young player put on this training should make significant progress within half a season to a season with multiple "player has improved his..." messages.
